About the role
Joining a team of world class technical experts in our Resource Centre of Excellence, you will be instrumental in providing thought leadership and technical mastery in the field of resource characterisation.
As Practice Lead – Global Resource Knowledge, you will define and influence leading practices in the understanding and application of resource characterisation and knowledge propagation of the subsurface and transformed material to inform the full life cycle of resources, from resource definition through to mine closure. You will also be responsible for:
- Providing global leadership in multidisciplinary resource characterisation and knowledge propagation within and external to BHP.
- Developing an awareness and capability of BHP geoscientists in the application of integrated geosciences to resource exploration, extraction and closure.
- Providing team leadership to key subject matter experts and empowering SMEs who support our Assets.
- Acting as the second line of defence assurance for geoscience related standards.
- Building trusting relationships with and between Operations and Planning & Technical groups.
- Identifying key knowledge gaps in our ability to create and deliver characterisation models and maintenance of roadmaps to influence allocation of resources to development initiatives.
- Influencing, leading and managing resource characterisation research to address knowledge deficiencies identified collaboratively with Asset or functional peers.
- Promoting BHP as a leader in resource characterisation and knowledge to the external technical community, including universities, research institutions and professional organisations.
In this role, you can be based in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or Santiago.
About You
You will have a depth of experience in the application and effective delivery of resource characterisation, along with extensive knowledge of the value chain from resource delineation through to closures. It is critical that you have technical expertise in resources characterisation and its incorporation into resource and reserve models, as well as the downstream business decisions.
With experience across multiple commodities, you are able to demonstrate a breadth and depth of understanding of geological processes contributing to the formation of different ore deposits. Your career to date will testify to your ability to demonstrate strong critical reasoning skills, quickly grasp technical concepts and apply theories and you are regarded as a thought leader in industry and academic technical communities.
As a leader, you have had a proven track record in leading multidisciplinary technical teams and innovation breakthroughs in the understanding of improved resource knowledge to inform business decisions. Additionally, your coaching and mentoring skills will be key strengths that you draw upon to build capability and positively impact culture. Energetic and results-orientated, you work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple and interdependent deadlines.
A tertiary qualification is geoscience is necessary and post graduate studies in the same or related field will be highly regarded.
