About the role

 

Join BHP’s global Resource Centre of Excellence (RCoE) as Practice Lead Metallurgy & Processing, where you will provide enterprise-wide leadership across governance, assurance and technical thought leadership.

In this critical senior technical leadership role, you will influence the performance of BHP’s global metallurgical assets—strengthening current outcomes while shaping the future of metallurgical operations to deliver material, long-term performance improvement.

As the Practice Lead Processing and Metallurgy, you will be accountable for: 

  • Assurance of metallurgical 2-year budgets and Life of Asset plans
  • Providing thought leadership to BHP Senior Leaders on metallurgical strategies, challenges and recommended plans to address them.
  • Identifying and implementing systems that support the capability development of metallurgical professionals globally.
  • Providing technical governance across BHP’s major projects through Independent Peer Reviews (IPR’s) and Execution Phase Reviews (EPR’s).
  • Delivering technical and due diligence support to Business Development for potential new investments.
  • Ensuring that RCoE metallurgical deliverables conform with BHP risk management process including the execution and verification of critical controls.
  • Ensuring that RCoE metallurgical deliverables do not conflict with compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory obligations.
  • Engaging with Studies and Projects teams to provide technical guidance on sampling, test work and metallurgical flowsheet design through assurance and governance processes.
  • Providing technical coaching and support to site Operations teams to ensure competency in the execution of metallurgical practices.
  • Ensuring that subject matter expertise and technical knowledge in metallurgy and process engineering are shared and continuously available across the organisation.

In this role, you can be based in Denver, USA; Santiago, Chile; Toronto, Canada, or in Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide in Australia. 

About you

 

You bring deep technical credibility and leadership experience in metallurgy and process engineering across operations, technical and project environments. You have a strong track record of working effectively in complex, multi-disciplinary settings, influencing outcomes across diverse stakeholders and global teams.

Your experience spans the full lifecycle of metallurgical assets, including their operation, maintenance and optimisation within a mining environment. You are recognised for your ability to identify, assess and reduce material risks, strengthening asset performance and supporting safe, reliable operations.

Importantly, you operate with a strategic mindset—able to look beyond immediate horizons to shape long-term direction. You develop clear, forward-looking strategies and communicate them with impact, enabling alignment and driving enterprise-level outcomes.

A tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry Degree is essential.
