About the Role
The Principal Applied Geology will provide technical expertise and leadership for the advancement of geoscience knowledge across the value chain. The role will apply integrated geoscience knowledge and expertise to advise BHP Assets, Operations and Functions on evaluation maturity, projects, acquisitions and divestments, resource assessment, and extraction/rehabilitation activities. The role will support the Manager Resource Knowledge in the capture of opportunity and management of risk for resources across the value chain.
Accountabilities with the biggest impact
• Provision of subject matter expert geoscientific knowledge and collaboration for evaluation maturity, projects, acquisitions and divestments, resource assessment, mine geology and extraction/rehabilitation activities within the assets, functions and regions.
• Techno-commercial support of existing and future commodities across BHP’s portfolio.
• Support integration of geoscientific advancements into business as usual systems, processes and practices.
• Build trusted relationships with and between BHP Operations, Planning and Technical groups and Functions.
• Influence, lead and manage value chain research to address knowledge deficiencies identified collaboratively with asset or functional peers within BHP.
• Promoting BHP as leaders in integrated geosciences to the external technical community, including universities, research institutions and professional organisations.
About You
• Demonstrated 15 years of geoscience throughout the resource value chain, from resource delineation through to closure.
• Proficient in enabling portfolio management, mergers and acquisitions and divestment decisions underpinned by geoscience knowledge.
• Has a proven track record in both leading and working with dynamic, fast-paced techno-commercial teams.
• Demonstrated deep technical expertise in geoscience across the value chain and its application to business decisions.
• Evidence of technical thought leadership in influencing research directions.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new commodities, regions and concepts through breadth of applied science-based work experience.
Required:
• Tertiary qualification in Geoscience
Recommended:
• Postgraduate degree (MSc/PhD) in geoscience or resource engineering
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
