About the Role

 

We have an exciting newly created position within our Global Project Centre of Excellence (PCoE) function. As an AI visionary, you will help revolutionise project delivery, governance and assurance at a global scale. 

 

We have flexibility for this role to be based globally where BHP corporate offices are located and as appropriate to the successful applicant situation/preference and align with appropriate location's working rights.

The Principal AI role is part of a dedicated AI team in BHP's Project Centre of Excellence (PCoE). Working in partnership with our project communities we're using AI to drive innovation and achieve project excellence.  

  

As a Principal AI, you will be a trusted advisor, partnering at all levels across our global and regional project teams, and consulting directly with our project communities to understand their pain points and opportunities. You will be passionate about identifying quantifiable value and then using this knowledge to rapidly develop and support the AI solutions that have the greatest impact.


You will work closely with peers both within PCoE and all project delivery groups across all commodities and regions, this includes the other streams within Data and Systems who own and manage the data that fuels our AI solutions. You will form close working relationships with the BHP Technology teams that enable and support our AI solution platforms.

About You

 

As a successful candidate you are degree qualified in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science or Engineering, with demonstrated relevant professional Data Science / AI experience, preferably working across projects in the mining and resources industry.  

  

You will be comfortable delivering all aspects of AI solutions, including documentation, coding, testing and engaging with end users of our AI solutions.

 

Your technical skills include: 

  • Python, including Pandas, API development, machine learning including regression models, scikit-learn, TensorFlow. 
  • GenAI, including natural language processing, RAG and LLM reasoning / prompting.  
  • Data wrangling and data ingestion from a range of data sources including, SAP, SharePoint and Snowflake as well as unstructured data such as documents, spreadsheets and drawings. 
  • Data integration, including use of LLM API's to create content, set up and management of vector databases and development of retrieval pipelines. 
  • AWS cloud services, including Sagemaker, Bedrock, API Gateway, Lambda functions, SNS and SQS. 
  • MS Power Platforms. 
  • MS CoPilot Studio. 
  • MS Power BI. 
  • UI frameworks such as Streamlit,or JavaScript-based frameworks. 
  • Technical troubleshooting and problem solving

  • Curious with the ability to ask the right questions and assimilate information from a variety of sources to quickly demonstrate an understanding of your customers business processes, pain points and needs. 
  • A proven track record in the end-to-end delivery of impactful AI solutions. 
  • Ability to thrive when working as part of a global team. 
  • Fluent in English, with fluency in Spanish highly regarded.
