About NSW Energy Coal

NSW Energy Coal is a mine-to-market thermal coal business.  Our culture benefits from technical know-how, pragmatism and a sustainable delivery focus. Employing over 2,000 people, the Mt Arthur Coal mine, located 5km south of Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter Valley, is the main asset of NSW Energy Coal. Mt Arthur Coal is one of the largest thermal coal mines in Australia, operating for over 50 years.

In mid-2022, BHP made the decision to close NSW Energy Coal in 2030. This has created the need to review existing closure plans and ensure a smooth transition and readiness for closure by this time. Elevating the significance of this closure, NSW Energy Coal is the last remaining thermal coal asset in BHP globally. We invite you to join us at this important time in our BHP’s history as we bring people and resources together to build a better world.
