About the Role
The Principal Communications role offers an opportunity to lead BHP’s global innovation story, partnering with BHP Invent to shape and share BHP’s global innovation story.
BHP Invent supports the company’s work to innovate with impact and unlock sustainable value from our current and future resources.
We are seeking a motivated, creative professional with communications experience in a customer or consumer sector.
Reporting to the Manager, Leadership Communication, your accountabilities will include:
- Being a trusted advisor to the Vice President Innovation and supporting their internal and external engagements and communications needs.
- Promoting and embedding the BHP Invent brand (formerly known as Think & Act Differently) and communications strategy across BHP’s internal and external audiences and channels.
- Leading internal communications initiatives that help build a culture of innovation, agility and breakthrough performance across BHP.
- Producing high-quality, high impact content including speeches, videos, articles, presentations, and digital assets and partnering with our digital, media, asset and employee communications teams to ensure it reaches and engages BHP’s key audiences.
- Supporting BHP Invent’s presence at industry events and conferences.
- Building and maintaining trusted relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels and working closely with local and regional teams to achieve measurable results.
- Coordinating joint communication plans with our innovation partners.
- Measuring the effectiveness of communications strategies and channels, using insights to refine approaches and drive continuous improvement.
This role is offered on a two-year fixed term basis.
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated communications professional with exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, corporate communication experience and a flair for developing creative solutions that maximise reach and impact of communications.
We are also seeking attributes such as:
- Exceptional writing, editing and content development skills (including video).
- An audience first mindset and a good understanding of digital measurement and message testing.
- Proven experience in developing communications strategies for external and internal audiences.
- Strong understanding of global, regional and national policy and business environment and its impact on BHP.
- Ability to build trust with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to collaborate and lead cross-functional teams from across the company.
