About the Role

 

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs Asia, this role leads the development and execution of stakeholder engagement strategies that strengthen BHP's relationships, reputation and influence across India. The role is responsible for building and maintaining constructive relationships with government, industry, policy, community and other strategic stakeholders at state and federal levels, while providing insights and advocacy that support BHP's business objectives and long-term growth ambitions.

 

Working in close partnership with colleagues across Corporate Affairs and the broader business, the role will design and deliver proactive, forward-looking engagement, advocacy and reputation strategies that enhance BHP's external positioning and create an enabling operating environment.

 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

 

  • Develop and execute integrated stakeholder engagement strategies that strengthen BHP's relationships, reputation and influence across government, industry, policy, business and broader external stakeholder groups.
  • Lead proactive engagement with political, regulatory and other strategic stakeholders to support BHP's business priorities and long-term growth objectives in India.
  • Provide strategic advice, policy insights and stakeholder intelligence to leadership, including recommendations that inform business strategy and advocacy priorities.
  • Build and maintain a strong internal network across BHP to develop a deep understanding of business priorities, market developments and stakeholder risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including government representatives, industry associations, business leaders, think tanks, research institutions, trade organisations and other key influencers.
  • Monitor and analyse developments in the political, regulatory, economic and social landscape, translating insights into actionable advice for management.
  • Support BHP's corporate positioning and reputation by identifying opportunities to enhance the company's visibility, thought leadership and contribution to public policy discussions.
  • Represent BHP at external forums, conferences, industry associations and stakeholder engagements, promoting the company's interests and strengthening key relationships.
  • Coordinate company-wide input into industry-led initiatives, policy consultations and advocacy campaigns that support BHP's strategic objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on stakeholder engagement, reputation, public policy and government relations matters, including preparing leaders for high-level external engagements.
  • Lead the planning and execution of key stakeholder engagement activities that support business priorities and strengthen BHP's licence to operate and grow.
  • Identify emerging issues, opportunities and risks that may impact BHP's operations, reputation or strategic objectives, and develop appropriate engagement and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure BHP's participation in key memberships, industry bodies and external forums delivers measurable value, supports strategic priorities and advances the company's policy and stakeholder objectives.

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Politics, Economics, International relations, Business or related field
  • Significant experience in corporate affairs, stakeholder engagement, government relations, public policy or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing relationships with senior government, industry, business and other external stakeholders to support business objectives.
  • Strong understanding of political, regulatory, economic and social issues, and the implications these may have on corporate reputation, business strategy and commercial outcomes.
  • Experience developing and executing stakeholder engagement, advocacy and influence strategies in complex operating environments.
  • Proven ability to provide trusted advice to senior leaders on stakeholder, policy, reputation and external affairs matters.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively at the most senior levels internally and externally.
  • Ability to represent BHP with credibility and impact across a broad range of external forums, including government, industry, business and stakeholder engagements.
  • Strong judgement and decision-making capability, particularly in complex and ambiguous situations involving competing priorities and stakeholder interests.
  • Well-developed issues and risk management skills, including the ability to identify emerging trends, opportunities and threats and translate them into actionable business insights.
  • Strong understanding of operational, strategic and emerging risks across the lifecycle of a global resources business.
  • Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment.
  • High levels of integrity, discretion and professionalism in managing sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the BHP Charter and Code of Business Conduct.
