About the Role
BHP is generating large amounts of data from different sources and envisioning to scale value and impact through delivery of emergent AI solutions. Reporting to the Manager Data Platforms, your task as a Principal Data & AI Platforms Engineer, is to provide expertise in the design, implementation and continuous improvements of BHP’s core Data & AI Platforms and Technologies. These platforms provide re-usable, scalable and sustainable capabilities enabling project teams and customer groups to leverage to solve business problems, optimize business processes and deliver value through positive impact using Data, ML and AI techniques.
Key responsibilities:
- Work with the Advanced Analytics Platform team to provide expertise in guiding the design and engineering of platform changes for ongoing success of BHP’s core advanced analytics offerings (comprising of AWS, Azure and Snowflake technologies, e.g. Snowflake Cortex, AWS Sagemaker, AWS Bedrock, Azure ML, Azure Open AI as well as other emerging technologies) enabling our wide variety of user groups, customers and use-cases.
- Liaise closely with our Data Storage & Processing platform team (Snowflake, DBT, Confluent, Astronomer, Monte Carlo, Informatica) to provide seamless ingestion to consumption experience for our users embarking on advanced analytics.
- Liaise closely with our Visualisation product team (Power BI) to complement the existing analytics offerings with Advanced Analytics capabilities.
- Liaise closely with our Data Governance team (Collibra, Purview) to ensure Data governance and security requirements are addressed across e2e platform-enabled use cases.
- Liaise with project delivery partners, providing advice and consultations. Seek to continuously improve the Advanced Analytics platforms with automation opportunities, cost optimisation, monitoring and guidance on new feature releases.
- Define, communicate and maintain standards, frameworks, guidelines and best practice engineering guides for advanced analytics offerings.
- Fulfil a Data or AI Engineer role on customer projects, bringing your platform expertise to enable successful delivery of end to end solutions using our enterprise platforms.
- Pro-actively engage and collaborate with Architecture, Cyber Security, Data Strategy, Data Privacy & Compliance, Project Teams, Cloud & Network and other technology teams (Integration, ServiceNow, ERP, Microsoft 365 etc).
About You
You are a person with a drive for continuous learning and adaptable to new technologies.You enjoy keeping up to date with the latest happenings in the market in regards to data-centric platforms and emergent AI technologies.
You will bring your hands-on expertise in modern data centric technologies and AI solutions to the table, engineer and implement world-class Data and AI platforms. You are also an excellent communicator who can guide and influence project and program stakeholders across the organization.
- 5+ years in hands-on data/cloud engineering or data platform engineering orientated roles with primarily cloud-based PaaS and SaaS platforms.
- 5+ years professional exposure to modern/cloud data centric platforms and infrastructure - including enterprise data warehouses/data lakes, master data, integration platforms, data virtualisation, reporting/data warehousing and advanced analytics platforms.
- 2+ years experience and expertise in source control and CI/CD practices.
- Hands-on experience (personal or professional) with common data science libraries, languages and tools (e.g. jupyter notebooks, tensorflow, r-scripting, python scripting, pandas etc) as well as knowledge of general data science practices including common algorithms etc.
- Experience (personal or professional) with MLops toolsets, processes.
- Experience in the creation of data platform related patterns and/or engineering best practices/guides for wide user consumption
- Understanding of patterns, techniques and principles relating to enterprise integration, data warehousing, data hubs, data virtualisation and advanced analytics solutions.
- 2+ years experience working within an Agile, DevOps and Product Team mindset.
- Proven stakeholder engagement skills and ability to guide and train others
- Drive for continuous learning/improvement and adaptable to new technologies and approaches.
