About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Technical Assurance, the Principal Mechanical Engineer will support BHP’s Copper South Australia Major Projects growth program by providing technical subject matter expertise with Mechanical design. This role will ensure the engineering process and design is optimised and enables safe, efficient construction, commissioning and operation.

 

This position will be full-time (Monday to Friday) based in Adelaide.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

 

  • Review the engineering design for effectiveness and efficiency, including integration into the broader project portfolio and asset.
  • Assure the engineering design meets operational, maintenance, construction, and commissioning requirements through participation in risk-based workshops.
  • Assure the quality of engineering design resources, processes and tools are fit for purpose through risk based technical audits with engineering service providers.
  • Provide technical input to the engineering project framing documents by collaborating with other peers from other engineering disciplines, project managers and other engineering leaders.
  • Ensure the required legislations, engineering standards and asset engineering standards are adopted in the project scope.
  • Optimise asset standards with the asset engineering team where required.
  • Identify and implement cost efficiencies into the design.
  • Integrate internal lessons learned and external best practices across the project.

 

About You

 

 

As the successful applicant you will be able to demonstrate the following:

 

  • Relevant experience with, major projects, EPCM project delivery and site operations.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in mechanical engineering design and ability to work autonomously for the project owners’ team.
  • Strong experience with design of process plants.
  • Ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders, consultants, and contractors
  • Good technical and communication skills, including the ability to analyse data and produce concise reports and presentations
  • Solutions focused with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering
