About the Role

 

The Operational Decarbonisation team has been established to support the delivery of BHP's decarbonisation programs in Minerals Australia. Our team is based all over Australia and made up of professionals in workstreams covering Mining, Rail, Power, and Integration. Our purpose is to maintain the regional decarbonisation roadmap and solving complex decarbonisation problems to help BHP achieve its medium-term operational decarbonisation target of 30% emissions reduction by FY2030 based on FY2020 baseline and long-term goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. 
 

Operational trials in collaboration with our vendors and industry to accelerate development are critical to success. BHP is advancing trials to demonstrate the safe and efficient application of emerging low emissions technologies.
 

The Principal Electrical Engineer will support the operation of the Caterpillar Early Learner battery truck project at our Jimblebar Mine. The Caterpillar Early Learner will be BHP’s first battery electric haul truck, which we will trial from late 2024-2026. Over this time, we want to demonstrate the safe and efficient operation of the Early Learner and its supporting high-power (megawatt) stationary and dynamic charging infrastructure, ahead of planned further adoption across BHP.
 

In this role you will:


•    Support the readiness and operation of the Caterpillar battery-electric haul truck project engineering, construction and operation
•    Proactively identify safe work practices and events/hazards procedures and operating standards to contribute to a safe working environment.
•    Follow risk management processes, support risk assessments, HAZID and material risk management tools to keep our people safe.
•    Collaborate with the project and cross-functional teams to resolving deep technical issues and reach consensus with subject matter experts in our governance and technical stewardship teams
•    Support investigations of problems and using planned and structured approaches. 

 

The role is offered to internal and external as a permanent position. This position is based at Jimblebar and is offered as a 5/2, 4/3, roster with potential for select flexible working arrangements to be considered.
 

About You

 

•    Prioritise team health and safety
•    Electrical Engineering Degree, preferably CPEng as well
•    5 years or more of Project and/or Operations experience in a mining operation 
•    Experience with fixed and heavy mobile equipment (electrically propelled earth-moving machinery) is highly advantageous
•    Knowledge of standards and regulations associated with electrical design, installation, and testing
