BHP is seeking an experienced Principal Security & Emergency Management professional to join our WA Iron Ore (WAIO) business. This is a senior, influential role responsible for setting direction and strengthening security and emergency management capability across one of Australia’s largest resource operations.
Based in Perth on a 5:2 roster, with regular travel to site, you will partner closely with operational leaders to ensure safe, secure and resilient outcomes across the asset.
About the Role
Reporting into the Asset HSSEM team, you will provide strategic leadership, governance and technical expertise across security and emergency management disciplines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and continuously improving security and emergency management practices to support safe, productive and compliant operations.
- Planning, tracking and delivering initiatives and projects that generate value and achieve defined outcomes.
- Identifying, assessing and managing security and emergency management risks using BHP’s risk management framework to support informed decision‑making.
- Influencing and engaging a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across complex operational environments.
- Making evidence‑based, strategic decisions aligned to longer‑term business objectives.
- Designing and implementing governance, assurance and management of change processes to ensure consistent standards across security and emergency management.
- Driving the development and implementation of industry best practice across the asset.
- Supporting implementation and compliance with security and emergency response critical controls.
- Contributing to strategic planning, preparedness, response and recovery activities aligned to asset and global standards.
- Providing expert technical advice to operations to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable legislation.
- Maintaining high‑quality security and emergency management reporting, data integrity and governance.
About You
You are a respected security and emergency management professional with strong technical credibility, commercial judgement and the ability to influence at senior levels.
You will bring:
- Deep understanding of the security and emergency management regulatory environment, with experience in SEM risk practices and programs.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability, with the confidence to influence across operational and leadership teams.
- A demonstrated ability to translate strategy into practical, executable outcomes.
- A proactive, adaptable and future‑focused mindset.
- Proven experience and subject matter expertise in security and emergency management or a closely related discipline.
