About Potash
The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.
Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. To find out more about Potash and the Jansen project, click here.

Purpose
The Principal Employee Relations role provides specialist employee relations expertise to support leaders in managing complex and high‑risk people matters, ensuring the consistent and compliant application of employment legislation, agreements, and BHP policies while strengthening ER capability across the business.
About the Role
In this role, you will:
- Provide expert employee relations advice to senior leaders across the business
- Lead complex and high‑risk ER matters, including investigations, disputes, performance management and disciplinary matters
- Ensure consistent application of employment legislation, agreements, and BHP policies
- Partner with People & Culture and legal teams to manage risk and support change
- Build ER capability through coaching, guidance, and best‑practice frameworks
Work Location
This position can be based in our Saskatoon Head Office or at our Jansen Mine Site in Leroy, SK. For those employees who are Jansen based, the work schedule can be 4x10 hour days or Monday to Friday 8 hour days.
For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts.
For those working at our downtown, Saskatoon office, the work schedule is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.
BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.
About You
- Extensive experience in employee relations within a large or complex organisation
- Proven capability managing complex ER cases and investigations
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation and ER best practice
- Confident influencing and advising senior leaders
- Pragmatic, solutions‑focused communicator with sound judgment and discretion
- Experience in an operational or regulated environment is highly regarded
