About the role

 

The purpose of this role is to appoint a full time principal civil & geotechnical engineer, with experience and knowledge in tailings dam design to support projects, civil engineering definition, technical support, standardization, quality, changes, progress and performance of projects contractors in the Civil discipline.

 

Core Accountabilities

 

  • Strongly aimed to a safety focus.
  • Work closely with the Manager Project Engineering, Engineering Team and Project/Study Manager of project in phases IPS, SPS, DPS and execution to ensure project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are in line with the Base Metals business targets.
  • Ensure that a quality and cost-effective designs are employed in the civil and geotechnical disciplines.
  • Ensure the civil & geotechnical engineering good practices and quality goals are met and maintained within the projects, particularly about tailings and ripios disposal design and construction.
  • Apply appropriate BHP lean designs and standards into the projects.
  • Review geotechnical investigations plans and field/lab tests results.
  • Review stability and deformations analyses of earthworks, rockfill and tailings structures.
  • Review and recommend bidders list for key civil materials and equipment.
  • Review and recommend successful bidder for major equipment and bulk material purchases. o Participate with the operational and maintenance team in the engineering workshops (design review, value engineering, maintenance, operability, constructability and HAZOP) to ensure the civil requirements are incorporated into the designs.
  • Supervise productivity and quality levels of the civil engineering contractor’s deliverables.
  • Supervise preparation and approve the key engineering documents produced by engineering contractors and vendors related to the civil & geotechnical design of any project or study related with Ripios and Tailings Dam.
  • Prepare and review scope of work and technical documents related with the civil-geotechnical discipline to call for bids for IPS, SPS, DPS studies or execution projects bids.

About you

 

Requirements:

 

  • Civil Engineer, entitled.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in geotechnical discipline for mining projects with focus in Tailings dam design. Ideally more than 8 years working for tailings disposal projects.
  • Knowledge in Geotechnical, Tailings Dams, experience in cost estimate, execution plans and scheduling of medium and large mining projects.
  • Competent in the use of relevant software such as MS Office.
  • English spoken and written.
