The challenged Ahead

Provides technical expertise in leading engineering strategies, standards and frameworks that ensure the engineering process and design is optimised and enables safe, efficient construction, commissioning, handover and operation.

 

Main Responsibilities:


•    Champion safety and ensure engineering decisions, designs and deliverables comply with BHP requirements, applicable regulations and effective risk controls.
•    Implement discipline engineering strategies, standards, plans, processes and systems across IPS, SPS, DPS and execution phases.
•    Provide technical assurance for designs and third-party engineering, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose, cost-effective, constructable, operable, maintainable and aligned with quality, risk and project performance targets.
•    Idenitfy and manage technical and engineering risks that may impact the outcome of the investment and its key value drivers.
•    Work with Project Engineering, Study and Project Managers, Operations and Maintenance to incorporate project requirements through design reviews, value engineering, constructability, operability, maintainability and hazard review workshops.
•    Coordinate consultants, engineering contractors and vendors, and oversee the quality, productivity and approval of key engineering deliverables, including field engineering during execution.
•    Prepare and review scopes of work and technical tender documentation and provide recommendations on bidder lists and the technical selection of major equipment, materials and services.
•    Drive the adoption and development of BHP and Operations engineering standards, including lean design principles, across the project portfolio.
•    Apply lessons learned and external best practices to improve capital efficiency, productivity, quality and project delivery outcomes.

What we expect from you

 

Requirements:


•    Civil / Civl Mechanical / Civil Electrical Engineer/ Civil Process, entitled. 
•    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, with professional qualification where applicable.
•    Minimum 12 years’ experience in mining projects with focus in design, and with experience in tender process documents preparation. 
•    Knowledge in discipline design, experience in cost estimate, execution plans, scheduling of medium and large mining projects and in tender process for services contracts (Engineering, Construction and Services).
•    Competent in the use of relevant software across the project delivery ecosystem, including MS Office, Aconex, Primavera and other applicable project management and engineering systems.
•    English spoken and written.

•    Strong strategic thinking and planning capability.
•    Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in complex and varied environments involving multiple clients, stakeholders and teams with differing needs and interests.

 

Work Location:

 

The work location and roster will depend on the role’s assignment across the project portfolios at Minera Escondida and Minera Spence. For projects in the study phase, the role will remain based in Santiago, Chile, on a Monday–Friday (5x2) schedule, with occasional travel to the relevant mine site. If an assigned project progresses to, or is already in, the execution phase, the role will temporarily transition to a site-based roster aligned with the project’s requirements (4x3, 8x6).
