About Potash

BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.

Purpose

The Principal Engineering Systems will provide leadership and support to the Jansen Project and Operations for the ongoing development, embedment, and governance of the digital strategy. This role will provide technical expertise and be instrumental in the transition of the engineering systems and data from the project to operations. This role will be responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and governing engineering systems and processes which provide timely access to correct and complete documents and data.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Work with BHP’s Manager Digital Systems, assist with the ongoing enrichment and embedment of the established Owner's Engineering Information Management (EIM) Strategy to ensure that the right data is provided to the right people at the right time
  • Institute robust data governance structures and processes to ensure that Jansen data is being appropriately managed including responsibility for compliance audits of engineering service providers
  • Oversee change management and control processes with respect to engineering systems
  • Continue to evolve and maintain BHP standard and governing documents to support robust business processes for the digital strategy and BHP Operations
  • Ensure appropriate contractual terms and conditions, governing data and attribution requirements are included in contracts with engineering service providers, contractors, and suppliers
  • Support execution of the project and handover of deliverables, data, and systems from the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) to BHP Operations

  • Contribute to the concurrent engineering strategy for use of the SmartPlant suite of tools both during execution and operations
  • Work with key operational, maintenance and project stakeholders to determine, define, and implement system integrations that leverage the SPO database such as integration with SAP and other operational systems
  • Work with our engineering service providers to manage the successful handover of project data
  • Lead the requirements gathering and management for ongoing administration and enhancement of SmartPlant Owner Operator (SPO) for Jansen’s operations
  • Lead system upgrades
  • Champion the embedment of SPO at site through communication, training, and system optimization
  • Prepare SPO training materials and train end users to effectively access the system
  • Identify strategies for reuse of Jansen Stage 1 engineering information and data
  • Identify, engage, and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders 
  • Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste 

About You

  • Degree or diploma in engineering, or another relevant field with experience in Engineering Information Management, SmartPlant Systems, Other Engineering Systems
  • Relevant experience in a technical field
  • Must have relevant experience in the capabilities and deployment of SmartPlant suite of tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data and deliverable management
  • High level of business acumen, with a deep understanding of the operating model and interaction between processes, systems and people for Projects, Engineering and Operations.
  • Capital project and operational experience managing engineering data and information through the entire lifecycle
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong ability to communicate effectively
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or the equivalent is considered an asset
