About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive, dynamic, and commercially astute professional to join the BMA Finance Business Partnership team as Principal Finance Business Partner. This 18‑month fixed term contract or secondment, based in our Brisbane office with regular site travel, plays a critical role in partnering with site leadership to create and protect value across BMA’s large open‑cut operations.

As Principal Finance Business Partner, you will have a specialist to support you who are strategic partners to the business (GM and Site Lead Team), guiding our strategy of value creation and protection. You will also be a member of a Site Leadership Team where you will provide financial advice, develop relationships and build financial acumen in the asset. You will create value by improving the quality of business decisions, through analysing financial data, options and valuing opportunities to enhance business outcomes. These roles are enablers to success of BMAs large open cut operations by navigating multiple interfaces.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Influence and challenge the site teams in cost control, productivity, capital allocation and continuous improvement
- Manage, mentor and guide a specialist in providing financial insight, value coaching and business acumen to decision making
- Coach and build finance capability with key stakeholders and the use of information systems to determine cost and budget outcomes
- Support core planning deliverables for the site, including input into 2-year business plans, quarterly forecasts, and capital portfolio prioritisation.
- Identify, engage, and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Apply an understanding of the business context and end-to-end value chain to deliver value maximising opportunities
- Translates corporate objectives into actionable plans, communicating, managing, and analysing the implementation of those plans, and reporting back on their progress to facilitate the delivery of our strategy
- Make evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be able to deal with multiple, competing priorities and delegate effectively whilst maintaining ownership of the overall outcomes. Strong attention to detail, your ability to achieve deadlines, manage ambiguity and problem solve will be critical to your success. You will have the ability to proactively identify and resolve complex problems, think outside the box and drive change. You will have great communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, essential to building constructive relationships and credibility with diverse stakeholders and cross functional teams.
To be considered for the role you will be degree qualified with +7yrs of experience in resources, manufacturing, finance business partnership, consulting, or engineering. Operational finance experience is preferred but not essential.
