About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists to join our central BMA Asset Engineering Team based in our Brisbane office.
BMA Engineering plays a critical role in ensuring safety and stability of each Operation. This Principal Fire systems Engineer role will report to the Governance & Technical Stewardship Superintendent and will play a key role in the Governance of the Operations Fire Protection Facilities.
This role will provide a high level of technical management whilst providing guidance to the Operation’s Governance and Technical Stewardship teams to fulfil its core accountabilities. You will join a team of successful engineers and work collaboratively with all BMA Operations across the Bowen Basin.

About You
As part of the Asset Engineering Team within BMA the following attributes will be key to your success:
• Bachelor or equivalent Degree in Engineering
• RPEQ in fire safety area of engineering or area of competence or the ability to attain in the near future
• At least 10-15 years' of relevant experience in Fire Safety Engineering
• Through a high level of technical knowledge, you will have a strong demonstrated experience in embedding the end to end process required to maintain existing fire equipment.
• Have demonstrated capabilities in effectively engaging with various levels and across Operations and Functions
• Experience in managing contractors to deliver positive results in safety, culture and productivity.
• Experience in site based problem solving in a mining environment
• A proven track record of safety leadership.
• Strong organising and problem solving capabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of the principles of performance-based fire engineering would be desirable
The successful candidate must have proven experience in design and asset integrity management of fire protection projects, as well as solid knowledge of the following codes and standards:
• Reasonable working knowledge of the National Construction Code and its application to a variety of structures and building types
• Routine service of fire protection systems and equipment to AS 1851
• Fixed fire protection installations - Pumpset systems to AS 2941
• Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems to AS 2118
• Hydrant systems to AS2419
• Smoke and Thermal detection systems to AS1670
• Knowledge of the basic principles & requirements of Electrical Switchroom gaseous special hazard suppression systems & Mobile Equipment pre-engineered foam spray suppression systems.
• Knowledge of NFPA, FM Global and other international codes and their application to Material Handling Plant is highly regarded.
