About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual, with a track record of designing and developing geoscience data systems to join the Exploration Data Systems and Capability team. This role sits within the Exploration Excellence and Innovation group, and reports to the Manager Data Systems and Capability. The role is ideally based in Toronto, however other BHP office locations will be considered for the right candidate.
As the Geoscience Data function manages the ingestion of data from source to Minerals Exploration Team data repositories and then subsequently to internal and external stakeholders. Its remit is to manage geoscience data flows into and within Minerals Exploration Team in order to facilitate the availability of business-critical data to the teams.
Accountabilities
- Accountable for developing and designing core components of Exploration’s central data repository and pertinent geoscience data standards, best practices.
- Accountable for all systems and protocols concerned with the ingestion and management of structured and unstructured data from both internal and external sources across all Exploration applications and geographies.
- Managing contracts with external data providers and responsible for maintaining high standards in contract performance.
- Accountable for data integrity and security hosted within Exploration’s data systems.
- Screen for and maintain links with external and internal data source providers.
- Provide support to the Exploration group on the use of GIS, 3D geological modelling (e.g. Leapfrog), resource estimation, prospectivity analysis (e.g. fuzzy logic modelling), project ranking and other forms of quantitative geoscience.
About You
Requirements
- Degree qualification in Geoscience from a reputable university.
- Greater than 10 years’ experience in economic geoscience and/or business experience in geoscientific data applications and detailed understanding of the workflows and data infrastructures that support them.
- Advanced skills in GIS, database design and management.
- Advanced English language skills, and ability to create and publish user-friendly workflows, operating procedures and guidelines on data standards.
- Core proficiency in the QAQC of geoscience data, for at least one or more of the geoscience disciplines.
- Experienced in the development of partnerships (both internal and external).
- Strong desire and demonstrated ability to identify and implement opportunities for step change performance improvements.
- Self-starting individual with demonstrated curiosity and ability to identify cross-disciplinary ideas through a global network.
- Experienced in project management skills with the ability to work within large multidisciplinary teams, engaging stakeholders and broader exploration teams. Agile management skills will be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of typical exploration mining software suites such as acQuire, Seequent, Esri suite is highly recommended.
- Passionate about geoscience data standards with focus on delivering the best data solutions to our Exploration teams.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts and workflows to technical and non-technical audiences.
