About the Role

 

 

The Principal Geoscientist will be a core member of a global team of highly specialised experts responsible for identifying, assessing, and recommending new search space opportunities for porphyry copper exploration. 


Main Accountabilities:


•    Accountable for carrying out high quality data capture, analysis, and interpretation leading to ground capture to continually replenish the program pipeline.
•    Assists in project evaluation, provision of technical guidance, and supports overall pipeline quality and health within the Exploration portfolio. 
•    Contributes to support high standards of work and technical rigour through collaborating with geoscientists in Exploration directed towards ensuring that the plan and deliverables are being met.  
•    Carry out activities to build and maintain a continental prospectivity map for copper, with appropriate higher resolution in those geological terranes of specific interest.  Leverages knowledge of the Mineral Systems Framework in the application of the work.
•    Participates in work with the technical Practice Leads and Data Systems team to obtain guidance and maintain excellence in the program
•    Contributes to the broad scanning of technical reports and research work being carried out in the regions of interest to recommend to the Generative Manager new areas aimed at improving overall portfolio quality. 
•    Solid understanding of effective data management and use, with an emphasis on how to ensure high quality inputs and outputs to Augmented Intelligence environments.  Participates strongly into enhancing Machine Learning principles as applied to regional prospectivity mapping and area selection.
•    Drive outcomes in sub-disciplines, including but not limited to geochemistry, geophysics and structural geology, that deliver best-in-class practices and insights across all activities within Exploration.  Works with guidance from the relevant Practice Leads.
•    Participate in technical reviews at the global and regional level based on deep knowledge of the portfolio, regional geology, geochemistry, and/or geophysical response of porphyry copper, sediment–hosted copper and IOCG deposits.
•    Contribute to positive, open, and trusting relationships with the geoscience community across Exploration.
•    Provide timely, accurate, comprehensive, and credible technical reports and motivation documents for core Generative programs to assist and support high-quality decision-making in the team.

About You

 

 

To be a top performer you will need:


•    Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, or related science.
•    12+ years’ relevant experience in geosciences (including in specialist field), and solid understanding of generative workflow as applied to base metal exploration with a demonstrable track record of success.  
•    Post-graduate studies highly regarded
•    Operational (mine or mine development) experience.
•    English fluency, Spanish desirable.
•    Strong commitment to safety and sustainability.
•    Sound understanding of porphyry copper, sedimentary copper and IOCG geological features and mineral system frameworks, with application to successful discovery techniques.
•    Understanding of the overall objectives for each country of operation and wider objectives of the Exploration team.
•    Deep technical understanding and a strategic view of how to accomplish results through influencing to accomplish successful performance of the role.
