About Mt Arthur Coal
New South Wales Energy Coal consists of the Mt Arthur Coal open-cut energy coal mine in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia.
Following an extensive two-year review process, in June 2022, BHP announced that it will retain Mt Arthur Coal (MAC) in its portfolio and would seek to obtain relevant approvals beyond the current mining consent (which expires in 2026) as part of a responsible process to cease mining in 2030. Following this announcement, the asset continues to work through our ‘pathway to 2030’ with tight integration between our business-as-usual (BAU) operations and the teams working on securing the approval and the broader transition to closure. Our priority will continue to be safe and sustainable operations, our people, and positively impacting the communities that we operate in, here in the Hunter Valley.
