About the Role

 

Are you ready to shape the future of geometallurgy at a global scale?

BHP is seeking a visionary and technically accomplished Principal Global Geometallurgy to lead best practices the integration of mineralogical, geochemical, and material property data to inform resource extraction and processing strategies. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the Practice Lead Global Resource Knowledge to ensure robust, risk-based geoscience models that guide decisions across the full resource lifecycle—from definition to closure.

Reporting to the Practice Lead Global Resource Knowledge, your key accountabilities include:

  • Provide thought leadership in multidisciplinary rock mass characterisation across extraction, processing, and closure.
  • Design and implement standards for geometallurgical inputs into resource and reserve models.
  • Deliver second-line assurance for geometallurgical programs and models.
  • Build geoscientist capability in developing geometallurgical models with quantified uncertainty.
  • Foster strong, trusted relationships across BHP Operations, Planning, and Technical teams.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and maintain research roadmaps to guide R&D investment.
  • Lead and influence geometallurgical research initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent BHP as a global leader in geometallurgy within the technical community, including universities, research institution and professional organisation.

About You

 

You bring a unique blend of technical depth, strategic thinking, and leadership. You have:

  • Extensive experience in geoscience, metallurgy, or process engineering across the resource value chain, from resource delineation through to closure.
  • A tertiary qualification in Geoscience, Metallurgy, or Process Engineering.
  • A proven track record of mentoring and coaching geoscientists and/or metallurgists.
  • Demonstrated success in leading innovative, risk-based modelling initiatives.
  • Deep technical expertise in geometallurgy and its application in resource and reserve models.
  • A history of influencing research directions through technical thought leadership.
  • The ability to rapidly adapt and apply scientific concepts across disciplines.


Highly desirable:


  • Postgraduate degree (MSc/PhD) in geoscience or resource engineering.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Location and Roster

 

The role can be based in Australia corporate offices in Perth, Brisbane, Adeliade, or in the Chile corporate office in Santiago.
You will be working on Monday to Friday roster with 3-2-1 arrangement. Three days from the office, two days from home, one of those days must be a Monday or Friday.
