About the Role
• Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
• Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
• Advise leaders in US and Canada on HR topics including culture (I&D), talent pipeline, performance, reward, organizational design, capability (coaching and leadership effectiveness), and Employee Relations (ER) strategy to support high performance and resolve issues. Role will pull on HR specialist services to deliver this service to the US and Canada business areas from various locations across the North America.
• Understand key processes, inputs, and drivers across BHP's value chain. Identify and mitigate the downstream impacts of individual business decisions on the rest of the value chain based on a deep understanding of the end-to-end processes, inputs and drivers.
• Advise senior leaders in north America on strategic people decisions facing their business or function. Assist leaders to identify strategic priorities requiring HR support and support HR Operations to plan and prioritize HR resources to support the delivery of strategic priorities, helping to connect the business with the HR function to drive alignment of strategy and execution plans.
• Work with a clear view of customer needs, measuring success through stretch goals and metrics. Adapt plans to changing conditions and context, identify and share new risks and opportunities with the team.
• Coach and influence stakeholders through change.
• Engage with key business stakeholders, legal and HR Process vendors, and authorities/government entitles to proactively inform and understand local context, align HR processes in country with global HR operating model and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
• Coach and connect leaders across BHP to build strong and inclusive relationships with all stakeholders across functional boundaries.
• Liaise as single point of accountability for US location (Tucson office) with the HR Ops team to raise HR concerns to develop local labor frameworks aligned with our BHP culture and ways of working.
• Provide end-to-end employee relation support through legal vendors to ensure understanding of legal HR context, workforce requirements and legal commitments with governments/authorities.
• Advise on EBA/ER negotiations or complex disciplinary cases, support line managers on performance improvement and disputes in these locations.
• Have a sound understanding and awareness of ER matters across Australia, South America and North America to advise leaders who have teams in various regions and support with Performance management and change initiatives.
• Provide customers with a seamless 'One HR BHP' experience and enable better measurement of work as well as an improved workforce culture in US location.
• Work closely with Organization Sustainability to understand and help inform BHP strategy, framework, and approach to culture, capability, organizational design and workforce transition.
• Lead and support the identification, development, and delivery of improvement initiatives around HR processes to leverage as much as we can the current services provided by our HR Operating Model and advocating for the emerging HR needs in US.
• Telecommuting permitted up to 30% from within commuting distance of the BHP Tucson office.
• Domestic and international travel required up to 15%
About You
Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Management or related field and 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a Principal HR BP US-related occupation. In the alternative, the employer will accept no degree and 15 years of experience in the job offered or in a Principal HR BP US-related occupation.
Position requires ten years of experience in each of the following:
• HR Generalist experience, including experience working as part of a geographically dispersed team.
• Senior stakeholder engagement, relationship building, and executive coaching skills.
• Managing service partners, vendors, and contractors to achieve business priorities.
• Solving strategic problems through detailed analysis, well-reasoned judgment, and decision-making with attention to detail, including the ability to identify and recommend improvements.
• Supporting the strategy, advisory and management of employees and labor relations matters and outcomes within a business.
• Telecommuting permitted up to 30% from within commuting distance of the BHP Tucson office.
• Domestic and international travel required up to 15%
