About the Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Minerals Australia Projects Health Safety Security team in the role of Principal HSS supporting the WA Asset Projects Delivery Portfolio.
This role will provide HSS functional support for a portfolio of projects in execution between $30M and $250M, across a broad range of areas supporting BHP growth, sustainability, closure, and social value improvements.
In this role, you will provide deep technical SME expertise to support a range of projects executed under various delivery models, including EPC/EPCM, owner-managed, and integrated project teams. Support will be provided to project teams, contracting partners, owner team leaders, and supporting functional teams such as project controls, commissioning, and operational readiness.
You will support project delivery from execution planning, tender, award, and mobilisation through to execution across a portfolio of projects, drawing on your deep projects and mining experience.
In your role as Principal HSS, you will provide leadership, coaching, and strategic direction as a subject matter expert to key stakeholders across multiple projects within the portfolio.
This role is a permanent 5/2/4/3 roster opportunity, with weekly travel including three days on site and Mondays based in Perth.
In this role you will:
- Provide HSE input to the design and establishment of HSS planning, standards, procedures, and systems for projects within the Minerals Australia Projects Framework and internal standards.
- Provide technical guidance to support the development of a strong safety leadership culture and enhance understanding of compliance with company and legal requirements.
- Support project teams with project execution strategy and planning throughout the project lifecycle to drive health and safety outcomes.
- Provide leadership across a portfolio of projects in relation to HSS analytics and data, including benchmarking, development of key performance metrics, and insight generation.
- Provide leadership, support, and technical guidance to project teams and contracting partners.
- Support and participate in strategic initiatives across the Minerals Australia Projects (MAP) HSS team.
About You
- Substantial years of mining and project experience in similar roles.
- Tertiary qualification in Health, Safety, Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong ability to influence and engage leaders.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles.
- Experience in projects, commercial environments, and contractor management is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to reliably deliver team outcomes and meet deadlines.
- Confidence to identify and lead change through vision setting, empowerment, drive, and effective execution of change management processes.
- Ability to effectively engage and manage contractors, including establishing, reviewing, critically analysing, and challenging contractor HSE performance.
