About the Role

 

BHP’s ambition is to create long-term relationships with Indigenous Peoples, based on trust and mutual benefit. Respecting and partnering with Indigenous Peoples aligns with our Company Purpose of bringing people and resources together to build a better world, our focus on delivering long-term social value and our commitment to working with integrity. The Principle Indigenous Engagement QLD will lead the delivery of key Indigenous engagement priorities in QLD with a primary focus on supporting the negotiation, implementation and review of Native Title agreements and driving the implementation of BHPs Reconciliation Action Plan.

 

  • Build and maintain trusted and respectful partnerships with QLD Traditional Owner groups, Aboriginal communities, Indigenous organisations, and partners.

  • Support the effective negotiation, implementation and review of BMA’s Native Title Agreements. 

     

  • Drive the delivery of BHP’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and Social Value commitments in QLD by:

    • Supporting the development and ongoing reporting of Asset and Operational RAP plans.

    • Leading the key RAP commitments, including implementation of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.

  • Provide ongoing Indigenous Engagement support and due diligence for BMA projects and approvals.

  • Provide Indigenous Engagement-specific coaching, guidance, and strategic advice to BMA operations and functional teams.

 

About You

 

  • Strong background in Indigenous Engagement and/or Native Title within the resource sector.
  • Proven experience in community engagement and building meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainable, mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Experience with managing complex projects, problem solving and meeting time critical deadlines.
  • Strong cultural competence with a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and current affairs.
  • Tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline desirable.
  • Indigenous candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
