About the Role

 

As Principal Innovation Delivery - JVs, you will lead a team responsible for shaping and executing the innovation strategy across BHP’s Legacy Assets, Joint Ventures (JVs), and Business Development function.

Acting as a strategic connector between operations and innovation, you will challenge conventional thinking and envision to redefine the future of mining. As part of a global, future focused team, you will bring a bold and collaborative mindset to unlock tomorrow’s resources while ensuring alignment with current needs and long-term operational goals.

You will work closely with Assets, Joint Ventures and functions leadership teams, TAD (Think and Act Differently), and other functional partners to ensure the effective identification, development, and integration of emerging technologies that transform how we operate.

 

Main Accountabilities

 

  • Shape and influence the innovation agenda of Assets, Joint Ventures, and Business Development teams, balancing short-, medium- and long-term horizons.
  • Develop deep understanding of asset strategies and operational challenges to co-design relevant and scalable innovation pathways.
  • Lead the translation of strategic vision into actionable plans, with measurable outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including technical experts, site leadership teams, and global innovation partners.
  • Use strategic thinking and evidence-based decision making to evaluate innovation opportunities, define value drivers, and determine investment viability.
  • Ensure the asset innovation portfolio is aligned with broader technical functions to avoid duplication, identify synergies, and maximize impact.
  • Facilitates strong two-way communication between the innovation team and operational areas, ensuring that business priorities inform and guide the innovation focus.
  • Provide strategic oversight and operational support for the deployment and scale-up of pilot and demonstration projects, ensuring value realization on-site.
  • Conduct high impact presentations and workshops, using storytelling and facilitation techniques to influence, align and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Build alignment and negotiate outcomes that deliver mutually beneficial value for stakeholders.
  • Engage the capabilities of the wider BHP organization to support innovation success.

 

About You

 

  • Experience in Mining or related fields in a managerial role (desired).
  • Ability to manage cross-functional coordination and resolve complex issues across departments.
  • Strong track record in building strategic relationships with senior leaders, operational teams, and technical experts.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying early-stage opportunities where innovation can address business pain points or unlock new value.
  • Strong strategic acumen to define key value drivers and evaluate boundaries of an opportunity before recommending investment.
  • Understanding of the day-to-day realities of operational sites, with the ability to navigate competing priorities and influence adoption of innovation initiatives.
  • Proven ability to support successful on-site demonstration projects in collaboration with other teams to drive value realization (desired).
