About the Role

Are you passionate about startups and entrepreneurship? Expressions of interest are sought for a Portfolio Strategy and Development (PS&D) Principal role, primarily working with BHP’s Innovation & Ventures team. This role will help lead the delivery of a Startup Accelerator program with a focus on solving industry challenges by working directly with the founders of emerging technology companies anywhere in the world. The Startup Accelerator program is positioned alongside BHP Ventures, our newly formed corporate venture capital investment function. Together with BHP Ventures, we seek to build and develop a portfolio of technology, capabilities and insights that collectively help accelerate BHP's innovation activities today and provide optionality to position the company to thrive for decades ahead.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Ensuring alignment with, and compliance to, Our Requirements relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Accelerator cohort management and learning curriculum development.
  • Accelerator cohort experience, applicant coaching and alumni management.
  • Supporting cohort teams where appropriate to achieve their objectives.
  • Plan, produce and execute a program of community network events.
  • Partner engagement and mentor relationship management.
  • Support for accelerator marketing and scouting, and cohort selection.
  • Engagement with Startup ecosystem and internal stakeholders.


As a member of the PS&D resource pool you may be assigned to other projects which relate to broader PS&D activities, including framing analysis, evaluating strategic options and informing recommendations for critical business decisions.

About You

You are consistently curious. You are relentlessly detailed-oriented, but understand the 'big picture'. You are both quantitative with a mastery of numbers, and a strategic, innovative thinker with a vision of where the future may take us. You are a careful listener but you always have an opinion or point of view, which you are comfortable openly sharing and refining. You understand the value of relationships and actively build your own broad network. You have refined your emotional quotient to understand people as much (if not more) than spreadsheets and documents.


The ideal candidate will have previous experience delivering a startup accelerator program, or relevant experience gained in venture capital, private equity, investment banking or management consulting. The ideal candidate will also have relevant advanced educational qualifications preferably related to Technology, Materials Science, Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy, Environment, Finance and/or Law.
