About the Role

 

The Principal Insights Product Operations is a catalyst role within BHP's Global Business Services Integrated Operations responsible for driving enterprise reporting, analytics, data governance and AI-enabled insights across the suite of functional teams that we support including all of GBS, Commercial, BMA Engineering, HR and MECOE.

 

This role partners closely with senior leaders across GBS, Technology and business stakeholders to transform data into trusted insights that strengthen risk visibility, support assurance activities, improve decision-making and deliver measurable business value.

 

As the principal, you will establish and execute the analytics strategy including data engineering, oversee the portfolio of reporting products, drive data quality and governance standards, and champion the adoption of emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI.

 

This role combines strategic thinking, technical expertise and stakeholder engagement to ensure we continue to provide reliable, scalable and business-relevant insights that actionable and aligned with the strategic objectives of the teams that we support.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Drive adherence to the IPO Playbook through a disciplined System of Work, strengthening BOS capability to drive consistent execution and performance excellence
  • Develop and execute the IPO strategy aligned to enterprise priorities and business objectives
  • Lead the governance, development and continuous improvement of reporting, dashboards, KPIs and analytical products
  • Partner with senior leaders across BHP to identify opportunities to leverage data, analytics, and AI, building trusted relationships and influencing decisions through actionable insights and compelling data storytelling
  • Ensure compliance to reporting standards, data governance frameworks and quality assurance practices to ensure trusted and consistent information (first line of support for risk management and assurance over products developed to ensure compliance with Data, AI and Cyber controls)
  • Drive the adoption of AI, Generative AI and automation solutions to improve reporting efficiency, insight generation and stakeholder experience
  • Oversee the dashboard portfolio and ensure reporting solutions remain fit-for-purpose, scalable and aligned to customer needs

  • Provide thought leadership on emerging analytics trends, technologies and best practices applicable to risk and assurance functions
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise KPI frameworks, performance reporting and executive dashboards
  • Support strategic initiatives through advanced analysis, scenario modelling and data-driven recommendations
  • Partner with Digital, Technology and Data teams to evaluate and deploy new analytical capabilities
  • Champion continuous improvement opportunities across reporting processes, data management and analytics delivery
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of reporting and analytics professionals
  • Drive continuous technical learning across GBS and Integrated Operations with emerging technologies by providing level 3 digital uplift and enablement support

 

 

About You

 

You are a highly experienced analytics leader who combines business acumen, technical expertise and strong stakeholder engagement skills. You are passionate about transforming data into actionable insights and leveraging innovative technologies to solve complex business challenges.


You will ideally possess:

 

  • Degree qualifications in Business, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Significant experience leading reporting, analytics or business intelligence functions within a large and complex organisation
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing analytics strategies that deliver measurable business outcomes
  • Strong expertise in Power Platform (BI, App, Automate), SQL, Snowflake and modern data analytics platforms
  • Experience with AI, Generative AI, automation technologies and their practical business applications
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality management and reporting controls
  • Proven experience designing and delivering executive reporting, KPI frameworks and dashboard solutions
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organisational levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to translate complex information into clear business insights
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing technical teams
  • Knowledge of risk management, assurance, compliance or governance disciplines will be highly regarded
  • Mining, resources, consulting services or similarly regulated industry experience will be advantageous
