About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide. Our global strategy emphasizes managing a resilient portfolio of valuable assets in attractive commodities.

We excel in operations and asset acquisition, fostering innovative technologies to enhance safety, productivity, and sustainability while upholding our social commitments.

Why BHP?

At BHP, we are transforming the way mining is done. We embrace innovation, sustainability, and inclusion to build a smarter, safer, and more human future. At BHP, you’ll be part of a team that values safety, integrity, performance, and collaboration.

The Challenge Ahead

As Principal Joint Ventures, you will play a key role in protecting and creating value across BHP’s portfolio of non-operated joint ventures. Working closely with the Head of Joint Ventures, you will provide strategic analysis, governance stewardship, and decision support that enables informed shareholder outcomes.

This is an influential role that sits at the intersection of commercial performance, governance, strategy, risk, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement. You will evaluate complex business challenges, integrate insights from multiple disciplines, and help shape BHP’s approach to joint venture partnerships across a global portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse joint venture performance, business plans, risks, opportunities, and governance matters, translating complex information into clear shareholder insights and recommendations.
  • Support the development and execution of strategic priorities across assigned joint ventures, ensuring alignment with BHP’s objectives.
  • Review operator submissions, including business plans, performance updates, major projects, investment proposals, and governance materials, identifying key risks and opportunities.
  • Coordinate technical, commercial, financial, legal, sustainability, and risk inputs to develop integrated positions and recommendations.
  • Prepare high-quality briefing papers, governance materials, and decision recommendations to support senior leaders and BHP-appointed Board and Committee representatives.
  • Maintain oversight of shareholder obligations, governance actions, and commitments, escalating material issues or emerging risks when required.
  • Build productive relationships with operators, partners, governance representatives, and internal stakeholders to support effective joint venture stewardship.
  • Lead defined joint venture workstreams and improvement initiatives, influencing multidisciplinary teams and external advisers to deliver value.

What You'll Bring to the Role

You are an experienced professional with a strong track record in the resources or mining industry and a deep understanding of joint venture governance, shareholder stewardship, commercial evaluation, and strategic decision-making. You enjoy navigating complexity, bringing together diverse perspectives, and influencing outcomes through thoughtful analysis and sound judgment.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Engineering, Law, or another relevant discipline.
  • Extensive experience in mining, resources, joint ventures, commercial, governance, strategy, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of joint venture governance frameworks, shareholder rights, obligations, and approval pathways.
  • Experience evaluating operational and financial performance, investment opportunities, major projects, budgets, and business plans.
  • Exceptional analytical capability and the ability to convert complex multidisciplinary information into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success influencing operators, partners, and functional experts without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication skills, including preparing executive-level and governance materials.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, sustainability, and responsible resource development.

Experience in non-operated joint ventures, Board and Committee governance processes, investment decision support, negotiations, partner engagement, and postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded. Spanish capability is also advantageous.
