About the Role

 

The purpose of the Maritime sub-function is to bring people and resources together through an optimized maritime supply chain that is world class, measured by the safest coverage at the lowest cost. This role provides maritime technical expertise, ensures that optimal maritime solutions are delivered to the business, and all maritime operations are conducted in accordance with organizational and industry requirements and BHP’s reputation is protected. Specifically, this role is accountable for protecting the integrity of the BHP supply chain by ensuring that every vessel meets or exceeds BHP’s vessel vetting criteria and regulations.

 

Accountabilities include:
 

  • Perform the role of shore team advisory and act as vessel/shore interface.
  • Perform vessel vetting for a portfolio of BHP operated ports and act as the business interface between a third-party vetting provider, RightShip, business stakeholders, Charterers and external parties, such as Vessel Owners, Technical Managers and Port Agents.
  • Lead incident investigations and run root cause analysis workshops to mitigate any gaps in process and/or performance.
  • Engage with Vessel Owners to lift performance through standard routines, performance conversations and improvement plans.
  • Represent BHP at industry forums, influencing key players to lift safety standards in line with BHPs expectations.
  • Lead safety forums and standard routines with Asset/Port stakeholders fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement on all matters related to Maritime safety.
  • Lead process improvement projects that enhance BHP’s controls framework to reduce incidents and any business impact.
  • Lead port agency sourcing strategy and contract management
  • Build understanding of key supply chain risks and support annual Maritime risk reviews
  • Support decarbonization projects and the pathway to delivering on BHP’s net zero ambitions.

About You

 

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

 

  • Ability to provide maritime technical advice and support in respect of port, terminal and vessel/shore compatibility information.
  • Strong project management skills, with demonstrable prior experience in leading change management projects and delivering improvement initiatives for customers
  • Confidence in managing and communicating with stakeholders in a matrixed organisation and building relationships with industry bodies. Influencing to share best practice, latest regulations and standards and passion to uplift safety in the maritime sector 
  • Knowledge of cargo quantity and quality survey techniques, and share expertise, if any, in handling of dangerous goods.
  • Commercial chartering knowledge with an ability to drive decision making with commercial teams that balances safety, sustainability and cost an advantage
  • Experience with commercial contracting strategies and risk management an advantage.
