About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.

In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world—Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.
About Potash and the Jansen Project.

Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that’s shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That’s what the Jansen Potash Project offers.

Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines on the planet. With a CAD $14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment, it marks the largest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.
But Jansen is more than a mine; it's a long-term opportunity to build something meaningful. During construction, it will create around 5,500 jobs, and once in operation, 900 permanent roles. Whether you're looking to grow your career, contribute to a sustainable future, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.

Why BHP?

At BHP, we are transforming the way mining is done. We embrace innovation, sustainability, and inclusion to build a smarter, safer, and more human future.

We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2025, a testament to our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse, and rewarding work environment. At BHP, you’ll be part of a team that values safety, integrity, performance, and collaboration.

The Challenge Ahead

As the Principal Mine Planning – Enabling Infrastructure, you will be a critical technical leader supporting the design, assurance, and optimization of foundational underground infrastructure essential to Jansen’s development, construction, and production ramp‑up.

You will act as a key connection point between Resource Engineering and execution teams—ensuring alignment, governance, and technical rigor across all engineering deliverables. A major part of this role involves managing third‑party engineering firms, supporting ventilation basis-of-design recommendations, and ensuring all work meets BHP’s expectations for quality, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical governance and oversight throughout project development and execution, ensuring engineering decisions meet quality, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction teams, and the client to ensure deliverables support scope, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Review and verify engineering designs using knowledge of design, construction, operation, and maintenance practices.
  • Support governance and assurance processes, including design reviews, approvals, risk assessments, and documentation.
  • Define project objectives, identify critical activities, and monitor performance to ensure safe, on‑budget, on‑scope delivery.
  • Provide technical expertise in construction strategies, standards, frameworks, and interface management.
  • Develop and deliver effective communication materials for operational and functional stakeholders.
  • Apply structured problem‑solving approaches to evaluate multiple solutions and address complex issues.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

Required

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mining or Mechanical) or equivalent education and experience
  • Experience managing third‑party engineering firms.
  • Understanding of multidiscipline engineering and industry‑standard practices.

Pivotal Experience

  • 5+ years in underground mine design and mine planning.
  • 7+ years in major capital studies and projects.
  • Direct exposure to underground mine ventilation systems

Recommended

  • Strong written, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience in potash mining (production, technical management, or project management).
  • Exposure to underground potash mine design, planning, and operations.

Work Location

This role is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with regular collaboration across the Jansen site and technical teams. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week. Hybrid working (shared work spaces and a blend of office and remote work) is standard at BHP. Travel to site may be required based on business needs.

At BHP, we understand that to bring your best, you need to feel your best. That’s why our benefits are designed to support your health, your growth, and your personal balance.

  • Professional Development: Continuous learning and real opportunities for growth.
  • Compensation: Fair and competitive, reflecting your role, skills, and achievements.

And so much more!
