About the Role
The Principal Mining Procurement leads the end-to-end commercial development and execution of outsourcing processes for a major mining project. Reporting to the Manager CCI Infrastructure & Decarbonisation, the Principal owns the commercial case for outsourcing and BOOT-style (Build–Own–Operate–Transfer) arrangements: framing the opportunity, building the business case, performing economic, financial and commercial valuation, co-leading negotiations, and recommending improvements that protect and create value. As an individual contributor of significant commercial depth, the Principal operates with a high degree of autonomy, simplifying complex problems into value drivers and structuring competing pressures into a coherent commercial strategy. They are confident using Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models and Value Driver Trees (VDT) and apply these to generate value across sourcing and outsourcing decisions. They work closely with Strategic Service, Operations, Finance, Legal and senior line leaders to align on strategy and deliver outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end outsourcing processes for the mine of a major mining project. From strategy and market engagement through to negotiation, award and transition.
- Build robust business cases and be able to understand and perform economic, financial and commercial valuation (NPV, cash flow, TCO, sensitivity and scenario analysis) to support insource vs outsource decisions.
- Structure and commercially manage BOOT / BOO / contractor-operated models, including risk allocation, pricing mechanisms, performance regimes and transfer / exit conditions etc.
- Lead negotiations with mining fleet, earthmoving and mining-services vendors, securing commercial terms aligned to the value case.
- Identify, quantify and pursue value-improvement opportunities; recommend and drive commercial improvements throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Develop the commercial sourcing strategy supported by a TCO model and VDT, and use it to prioritise opportunities and ensure value does not get eroded.
- Own commercial governance and compliance for the outsourcing scope, identifying emerging risks while executing mitigations on highly complex contracts.
- Engage and align stakeholders at all levels, communicating in line with each stakeholder's priorities.
- Coordinate work with Minerals Australia PSID team.
- Provide commercial guidance to other teamss supporting the outsourcing scope.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree Business Engineer or Industrial.
- Advance English language.
- At least 8 years of experience.
- Demonstrated financial / commercial modelling capability (valuation, TCO, sensitivity analysis).
- Demonstrated experience in minning sector, earthmoving equipment ideally.
- Previous experience in purchasing or sales teams.
- Knowledge in finance is a plus.
