About the Role
- Gathering, synthesizing and development of market intelligence in China and Southeast Asia as an input for BHP’s operational and capital procurement sourcing and category strategies;
- Build and manage in-country SRM for key suppliers to unlock strategic value and drive performance improvements;
- Obtains the Lowest Total Cost of Ownership for goods and services, value, and quality using market research, supplier evaluation, and fact-based negotiation to meet business objectives and in support of pre-determine category and procurement strategies;
- Applies an understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain to effectively identify and manage inbound supply chain disruption and compliance risks, enhance efficiency, drive optimisation, and maximise value;
- Applies an understanding of other countries’ political, historical and cultural context to build partnerships, market expertise and achieve business outcomes within an international context;
- Ambassador of the BHP brand with the external market as it relates to procurement of relevant goods / services, promote circular economy, reciprocal trade, supported by a deep understanding of vertical and integrated supply chains;
- Support senior leadership engagement with key suppliers to shape commercial positioning and strategic relationship development;
About You
- Strong commercial and international acumen, with proven experience in fast-paced, globally operating environments; comfortable leading and influencing across diverse cultural contexts;
- Ability to make sound commercial decisions, balancing short-term outcomes with long-term value creation and growth
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders across large, complex organisations to identify, shape, and deliver value opportunities
- Highly effective in navigating ambiguity and influencing outcomes, with the ability to align stakeholders at all levels
- Sound understanding of China supply markets, ideally within or supporting large international mining or industrial organisations
- Strong market intelligence capability, with the ability to generate insights and inform onshore category strategies to support broader commercial objectives and drive New Markets spend
- Experience identifying and developing suppliers in key categories, including onboarding and aligning suppliers to company standards, ways of working, and performance expectations
- Track record of mitigating downstream risks, including commercial disputes, supplier performance issues, and delivery challenges
- Fluent in Mandarin and English, Spanish language skills desirable but not essential, Bachelors degrees or above
