About Potash
The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.
Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for mid-2027. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location
This position will be based in Saskatoon. The associated work schedule will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.
BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.
Purpose
BHP is seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Operational Readiness to lead and coordinate readiness activities for the Jansen Project in Saskatchewan — one of the most significant potash developments globally. This role is critical in ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-integrated transition from project delivery into full operations.
You will work cross-functionally with teams across operations, maintenance, technology, HSE, and projects to drive alignment, identify gaps, and implement solutions that support a successful ramp-up and long-term operational excellence.
About the Role
In this role, you will:
- Lead the development and execution of the Operational Readiness strategy for Jansen Stage 1 and beyond.
- Facilitate cross-functional integration of readiness activities, ensuring alignment with business objectives and operational requirements.
- Support and coordinate Operation Completion Certification (OCC) activities, including verification of asset readiness, system functionality, and documentation to enable safe handover to operations.
- Identify and manage readiness risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities through structured assessments and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver readiness plans, tools, and processes that support safe and stable operations.
- Provide leadership and coaching to readiness teams and contribute to capability development across the site.
- Support the transition of project assets, systems, and people into the operational environment.
- Ensure readiness deliverables are tracked, reported, and validated through structured tools and dashboards, enabling transparent progress monitoring and decision-making.
About You
- Proven experience in operational readiness, project delivery, or operational leadership within mining, resources, or heavy industry.
- Hands-on experience in potash mill operations and/or underground mine operations is highly desirable, with a strong understanding of production systems, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence across multiple levels.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives in a dynamic environment.
- Strategic thinker with a practical mindset and a focus on execution.
- Experience working in large-scale capital projects or greenfield operations is highly desirable.
- Proficient in leveraging digital tools and dashboards to drive transparency, track readiness progress, and support data-informed decision-making.
