About the Role

The Operational Decarbonisation team has been established to support the delivery of BHP's decarbonisation programs in Minerals Australia. Our team is based all over Australia and made up of professionals in workstreams covering Mining, Rail, Power, and Integration. Our purpose is to maintain the regional decarbonisation roadmap and solving complex decarbonisation problems to help BHP achieve its medium-term operational decarbonisation target of 30% emissions reduction by FY2030 based on FY2020 baseline and long-term goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

 

Operational trials in collaboration with our vendors and industry to accelerate development are critical to success. BHP is advancing trials to demonstrate the safe and efficient application of emerging low emissions technologies.

 

The Principal Operations will support the operation of the Caterpillar Early Learner battery truck project at our Jimblebar Mine. The Caterpillar Early Learner will be BHP’s first battery electric haul trucks, two have arrived and the testing will occur from early 2026. Over the test phase, we want to demonstrate the safe and efficient operation of the Early Learner and its supporting high power battery charging infrastructure, ahead of planned further adoption across BHP.

 

In this role you will:

  • Support the readiness and operation of the Caterpillar battery-electric haul truck project planning and execution, with a focus on capturing learnings.
  • Plan, schedule, and support the delivery of activities to achieve the testing plan.
  • Prepare regular performance analysis and deliver insightful metrics reports to inform the trial.
  • Proactively identify safe work practices and events/hazards procedures and operating standards to contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework, and build a risk aware culture to support safe and successful trial operation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and site operations to plan and execute activities through the project phases - planning, construction, operation, and progressive capturing of learnings.
  • Support investigations of problems and using planned and structured approaches.

 

This position is based at Jimblebar and is offered as a 5/2, 4/3, roster with consideration for flexible working arrangements or modified rosters.

About You

  • Prioritise team health and safety
  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline. Trade qualification or equivalent
  • Proven experience in mine planning, operations planning, and project delivery within mining operations. Preferably, experience with Caterpillar Mining Systems Fleet and Command
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Preferably familiar with PowerBI and data tools
  • Exhibit a strong desire to learn, problem-solve and a high level of enthusiasm to develop new skills.
