About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and commercially focused Principal – Outsourced Infrastructure to lead the commercial development and execution of projects within BHP Minerals Australia outsourced infrastructure portfolio. This role is pivotal in ensuring that third-party infrastructure solutions are commercially viable, operationally efficient, and aligned with BHP’s long-term sustainability and growth objectives.
You will be responsible for shaping the commercial frameworks, procurement models, and delivery partnerships that underpin outsourced infrastructure, while ensuring alignment with government expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Drive BHP commitment to Social Value.
- Establish relationships with key stakeholders to become a highly valued commercial advisor
- Support the development of key project artifacts (Opportunity framing, Business case, Study Work Plans and estimates, Project Execution Strategies)
- Lead the development and approval of project contracts and procurement strategies.
- Work with BHP’s internal and external experts to assess optimal delivery models to maximise project valueLeverage financial models to support investment decisions and development of negotiation strategies
- Lead the implementation of appropriate systems, and processes based on project risk and complexity
- Ensure the integrity and maintenance of contracts in SAP/contract management systems (e.g. GCMS, ProCon) and other contract management systems as required
- Actively participate and drive BHP Operating Model (BOS) implementation and participate in improvement initiatives
- Manage Contractor and contract performance, monitoring and reporting to support the Projects Community
- Some regional and site travel may be required.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be a dedicated and passionate commercial professional with experience on multi-billion dollar capital projects a plus.
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, Accounting, Economics, Legal, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline;
- A high degree of business acumen with deep understanding of multi-billion dollar projects execution, risks and strategies; experience in strategic thinking, robust planning and risk management;
- Ability to think laterally resolving issues independently, influencing change, working autonomously with attention to detail in an organized and objective manner.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in complex and ambiguous environment
- Previous experience in the execution of various contracting strategies and compensation models BOO(T), BOOM, PPP, JV delivery models will be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of infrastructure delivery market and the different market participants (Project sponsors, Financiers, Investors, Contractors) and their value drivers
- Understanding of financial modelling techniques and their application to the end-to-end commercial process
- Ability to develop and execute negotiation strategies and plans
- Build partnerships and collaborate with a broad range of functional SMEs (Decision Evaluation, Legal, Finance, Commercial, Sustainability and climate change)
- Exhibit strong facilitation, problem-solving capability, influencing and relationship management.
- Strong communication skills. Ability to tailor communications and interactions to a wide variety of stakeholder groups, including senior level executives.
