About New South Wales Energy Coal (Mt Arthur Coal)

 

Mt Arthur Coal is in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. The site produces coal predominantly for international customers in the energy sector.    BHP announced in June 2022 that they will retain Mt Arthur Coal in its portfolio, seek the relevant approvals to continue mining beyond its current mining consent that expires in 2026 and prepare for closure by the end of FY2030.

About the Role

 

The purpose of the Principal Planner role is to maximize the effectiveness of the Vice President – NSWEC. The role actively facilitates and prepares interactions upwards, across and through the organization to maximize engagement and sponsorship for the NSWEC agenda.

 

This role will be an integral member of the New South Wales Energy Coal (NSWEC) lead team and will work with the lead team to develop and implement improvement plans for culture, communications, team and leadership development, Business Operating System (BOS) deployment and safety field leadership.

 

The role supports navigation in complex ambiguous context and integrates different functions and business units without removing their authority for action, to drive high performance.

 

To be successful you will build relationships with the NSWEC Leadership Team (and their leaders) to drive performance outcomes and continual improvement in our performance in support of the assets.

 

The role is suited to high performers with a track-record of strong delivery in operational or technical disciplines and capability for  operational leadership positions. The role develops the candidates’ deep understanding of organizational systems of work that drive  performance and thus prepares them for future leadership positions. 

 

 

This role can be based in Newcastle or at our Mt Arthur Coal site.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Assist VP- NSWEC with planned engagement plans, internally and externally, including readiness of materials and any required event or meeting management
  • Provide an effective interface and facilitate information transfer between the VP- NSWEC and key stakeholders and peers to drive sponsorship and positive engagement.
  • Design and prepare communications as required.
  • Prepare reporting as required, including performance reports for Executive and wider leadership teams.
  • Keep track of all Continuous Improvement and Business Plan initiatives and lead routines to monitor status.
  • Lead and or support key improvement initiatives to solve complex problems and or improve NSWEC’s performance in support of our customers.
  • Develop reports and presentations on improvements, achievements and strategies underway to get alignment with key stakeholders and management.

About You

 

You will have demonstrated ability to extract and analyse information from BHP systems, apply critical thinking, clear decision-making and have a collaborative and solution-focused attitude.

Interpersonal skills to communicate and build relationships across a large number of stakeholders and teams will be essential.

 

 

You will also be able to demonstrate:

 

  • Expertise in developing and implementing plans to solve complex problems
  • Able to challenge and engage appropriately with senior leadership
  • Ability to obtain and perform data analysis activities to provide key insights into operational and project performance and support decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • Demonstrate and promote alignment towards the company objectives across the group
  • Challenge the business value of activities and work requests
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and rapidly digest and process large volumes of information
  • Trust and confidentiality with business sensitive information.
