About the Role

 

As Principal Business Planning, you will play a key role in shaping planning outcomes and value creation opportunities across a portfolio of non-operated joint ventures (NOJVs). You will provide technical expertise to support high-quality business planning across long, medium and short-term horizons, helping ensure production and cost commitments are achieved while protecting BHP’s interests as an investor.

Working closely with a broad network of stakeholders and technical experts, you will evaluate risks, opportunities and value drivers to support strategic decision-making. Your contribution will be critical in strengthening planning excellence, identifying improvement opportunities and enabling sustainable business outcomes across the portfolio.

 


Main Responsibilities

 

  • Support Long-Term, Medium-Term and Budget Planning processes through robust technical analysis, early risk identification and development of appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate and communicate the risk-reward profile of NOJV business plans across multiple planning horizons.
  • Contribute to the NOJV Corporate Alignment Planning (CAP) process, supporting key deliverables including Life of Asset, Portfolio Valuation, 5-Year Planning and Budget Planning.
  • Identify value creation opportunities through scenario analysis, operational planning excellence and capital prioritization.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to align planning assumptions, value drivers, risks and uncertainties.
  • Develop forecasts and performance outlooks to support annual production and cost commitments.
  • Conduct Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves risk reviews across joint venture assets.
  • Deliver evidence-based analyses and recommendations that support informed decision-making and protect BHP's interests as an investor.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by documenting insights, lessons learned and planning enhancements.
  • Prepare presentations and facilitate workshops, translating complex technical information into clear and compelling messages for diverse stakeholders.
  • Build effective relationships with customers and stakeholders while maintaining a strong focus on value delivery.
  • Promote BHP's commitment to safety, customer value, collaboration and operational excellence.

 

About You

 

  • University degree in Mining Engineering. An MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • More than 10 years of experience in mine operations, resource engineering and asset planning, preferably within large-scale mining operations and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Strong business acumen, commercial understanding and proven influencing skills.
  • Experience in mining companies operating in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Exposure to long-term planning, budgeting, forecasting, operational assurance processes and performance reporting.
  • Experience working within joint venture environments, including JV governance processes, collaboration with multiple stakeholders and CSI engagement, is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting the preparation of materials for Boards, Committees and executive decision-makers, translating complex technical topics into structured and clear recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize subject matter experts and stakeholders through credibility, collaboration and influence without formal authority.
  • Proven experience working within global and cross-cultural environments, with a strong commitment to inclusion and collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and structuring capabilities to ensure consistency, comparability and decision readiness of complex business submissions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to transform data into meaningful insights for a broad stakeholder audience.
  • Experience with the BHP Operating System.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Availability to travel as required.
  • Mandatory English communication skills. Spanish and Portuguese language skills are desirable.
