About the Role

 

In this role you will provide technical expertise on "front office" shipping and port agents management, manage day to day port operational activities and account management, build and maintain maximize relationship with ports and agents.
 

  • Applies deep specific value chain knowledge and applies it to optimize the value chain considering total operational costs and throughput, supply chain capabilities, quality, price, preferences, market opportunities, and risks
  • Applies deep specific real world commodity insights and awareness of evolving trends to influence market direction externally and BHP strategy internally, including introducing new mandates or commercial levers 
  • Builds operational and strategic external customer relationships to support clear understanding of transactional needs and support the development of strategic opportunities, influencing both customers and internally to align goals 
  • Applies logistics management procedures and requirements including managing inventory loss / contamination to safely and efficiently meet stakeholder demands  
  • Manages agreeing and performance of customer contracts to maximize operational and financial outcomes and mitigate exposure to risk
  • Collects and applies intelligence on industry trends and market dynamics to drive enhanced decision making
  • Gains support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals
  • Conducts presentations and facilitates workshops using storytelling to connect, influence and engage the audience
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture
  • Makes evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives
  • Applies an understanding of China's political, historical and cultural context to build partnerships, market expertise and drive effective decision making and business outcomes within a Chinese context

About You

 

Experience: 

 

  • Experience in a commercial, economics, analytical, technical and/or relevant business discipline in the China region.
  • Must have ability to influence and effectively communicate with various stakeholders and lead change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in shipping and port management.

 
 

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a commercial, economic, technical and/or relevant business discipline
  • Fluent English and Mandarin, both verbal and written


Recommended Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Prior experience in port and shipping management in China markets
  • Knowledge of other languages relevant to the specific region advantageous
