About the Role

 

We are seeking Expressions of Interest for the role of Principal Portfolio – East (Coal & Copper) within the ITS Portfolio APAC team. This full‑time position can be based in Brisbane or Adelaide, supporting the Coal and Copper SA Asset Technology teams.

 

 

Reporting to the Lead Portfolio APAC, this role provides governance, analysis, reporting and forward‑looking insights to support effective management of Technology portfolios across Copper SA, BMA and NSWEC. It offers strong exposure to senior Asset Technology leaders and an opportunity to help shape how we deliver on Technology’s purpose: to build and maintain reliable, impactful, safe `and efficient technology that enables BHP’s competitive advantage.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive and contribute to:

 

 

  • Portfolio governance and cadence oversight
  • Monthly portfolio reporting, insights and analysis
  • Cash prioritisation, 2‑Year Budget and 5‑Year planning
  • CAPEX portfolio performance
  • Governance for project‑related incremental run OPEX
  • Early identification and communication of portfolio risks and variances
  • Collaboration with Asset Finance teams to support broader requirements
  • Proactive scenario planning
  • Portfolio systems management and coordination (PlanView)
  • Continued implementation of the BHP Operating System (BOS) and continuous improvement activities

About You

 

 

You bring a strong foundation in project and cost management, understands projects within the overall business context,  and enjoy contributing in environments where clarity, insight and collaboration are key.

 

 

We are looking for someone who has:

 

 

  • Strong technical understanding of projects, especially project cost management and cost systems (Planview experience advantageous)
  • Adaptability and comfort working with ambiguity and shifting priorities
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including confidence working with senior leaders
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication
  • Ability to interpret and connect portfolio datasets to generate actionable insights
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability
  • A continuous‑improvement mindset and curiosity to challenge the status quo
  • Understanding of portfolio risks, interdependencies, and critical paths
