About the Role

 

Join BHP’s Strategic Planning and Studies team and play a critical role defining and supporting continued growth within Copper South Australia.

As Principal Process Engineer – Hydromet, you will provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across hydrometallurgical flowsheets, supporting strategic studies, project development and Life of Asset planning activities.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, project teams, external engineering partners and senior stakeholders, you will help solve complex Hydromet processing challenges.

 

 

Based in Adelaide, this role offers excellent flexibility and a hybrid working environment.

 

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Provide subject matter expertise in hydrometallurgical processing and flowsheet development.
  • Lead and contribute to strategic studies from concept through to pre-feasibility, supporting Copper SA growth pathway.
  • Develop, review and integrate processing deliverables for key BHP planning and investment processes.
  • Analyse inputs from multiple technical workstreams and transform complex information into high-quality reports and presentations for senior leaders and executives.
  • Lead engineering studies with external consultants, suppliers and engineering partners, ensuring technically assured and fit-for-purpose outcomes.
  • Collaborate across mining, processing, infrastructure, commercial and project disciplines to identify innovative and value-adding opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain study governance, reporting and performance routines covering cost, schedule, risk and technical assurance.
  • Support the delivery of Life of Asset Planning for Copper South Australia.

 

About You

 

You are a highly capable process engineering leader with deep hydrometallurgical expertise and a track record of delivering study outcomes in complex mining or metallurgical environments. You bring strong technical judgement, strategic thinking and the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of an organisation.

 

 

 

You will ideally have:

  • Degree qualifications in Chemical, Metallurgical or Process Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in hydrometallurgical processing and flowsheet development.
  • Solid project exposure to study delivery across concept, scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility phases.
  • Experience working with engineering consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal, that allow influential and collaborative engagement across all levels.
  • Identifies and delivers innovative technical solutions to complex operational challenges.
  • Knowledge of copper and uranium processing across large-scale mining operations will be highly regarded.
