About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned commercial professional to join our Emerging Markets team, focused on redefining how we unlock new value and partner with suppliers across evolving global regions. This is a pivotal role at the intersection of commercial strategy, operational enablement, and strategic influence. This is ideally suited for someone with deep asset operational/reliability experience in Mobile equipment or processing plant.
As Global Principal – Emerging Markets, you will lead the identification and execution of the Emerging Markets Initiative for our Minerals America’s assets, partnering with global procurement teams based in Australia, Chile and China along with asset stakeholders. Your ability to operate confidently across varied commercial landscapes, engage stakeholders across different cultural contexts and time zones, and deliver value amidst shifting dynamics will be critical to success.
This role calls for an experienced commercial practitioner who thrives in less-charted territory -someone who brings structure to complexity and leverages new perspectives to drive value across our global categories. This role will report to the Manager Emerging Markets.
Main Accountabilities:
• Strategic Commercial Leadership – provides oversight and input throughout the development of category and sourcing strategies, forming an interface between assets and markets. Deep understanding of BHP procurement cycles.
• Stakeholder Engagement - ability to evaluate asset and project technical requirements in consultation with key SME’s, translating those requirements into new and planned sourcing activities, emerging market supplier development and commercial engagements
• Opportunity Framing and Execution – translate supply market dynamics, BHP’s forecast spend across capex and opex, geopolitical developments and emerging innovations into actionable opportunities for BHP.
• Builds and manages strategic supplier relationships with prioritised suppliers that target realisation of value through innovation, risk sharing, R&D and active commercial partnerships.
• Obtains the lowest Total Cost of Ownership for goods and services, value and quality using market research, supplier evaluation and fact-based negotiation to achieve business outcomes.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure category and sourcing strategies effectively considers emerging markets value levers.
• Applies intelligence on industry trends and market dynamics to drive enhanced decision making and planning.
• Mitigates people, community, human rights, environmental and climate risks across the value chain, in alignment with public policy and our sustainability and climate commitments.
About You
To be a Top Performer you will need:
• Professional degree related to the role.
• At least 5 years experience in Procurement or related commercial roles.
• Andvanced English and Spanish proficiency.
• Strong commercial acumen, demonstrating the ability to identify and embed innovative commercial models and solutions.
• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills
• Proven Project Management, including effective risk management experience.
• Experience in strategic decision making.
• Influencing skills and experience leading people not directly in reporting lines.
