About the Role

We will be seeking Principal Project Excellence Subject Matter Experts (SME) in the following areas: 

  • Study Management 
  • Project Management Construction 
  • Cost Estimating & Control

The Principal of Project Excellence role will be highly experienced Subject Matter Experts (SME) who bring specialised knowledge to support project teams to deliver successful and value accretive projects. 
They will be required to design BHP’s approach for managing projects and develop supporting frameworks, strategies and process to enable the business to deliver against these standards. They will be accountable for disseminating this approach across the regions, setting up support and governance structures as required.
This role is also required to nurture a culture of care across global and regional Project’s teams. Critical to this, will be empowering employees with the skills and capabilities required to deliver against the defined service offering, providing leaders with the tools to manage teams and enabling cross regional engagement.

Key accountabilities 

  • Shapes the vision and strategy for the Global Projects Excellence department (3-5 years into the future) by inspiring commitment, driving innovation and connecting complex change efforts. Champions strategy across the Business and drives integration with broader Business objectives.
  • Defines and supports the execution of best practices, processes, tools, standards, and templates to enable the effective management of projects. This includes conducting SME business assessment, verifying methodologies and advising on technical decisions.  
  • Dedicated to nurturing a culture of care by setting expectations on behaviour and championing expectations across teams. Proactively recognise leaders and teams that require support in addressing cultural standards and develop tailored strategies to BHP’s core values and addressing leverages from data and BHP methodologies to develop tailored employee initiatives across the regions. Empowers line leaders with the tools that they need to deliver against Our Requirements for Capital Projects and corresponding standards and procedures. 
  • Maintains a wide network of relationships globally and regionally, as well as throughout the functions, operations and regions to influence and drive strong functional/asset integration across BHP.
  • Makes evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives.  
  • Identifies, implements and evaluates the success of continuous improvement activities/initiatives to improve the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of BHP systems and processes.  

About You

Essential experience to be successful in this role
Pivotal Experience:

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in SME Projects discipline in mining or projects industry. 
Demonstrated strong industry knowledge, coupled with a network of subject matter experts in relevant field of expertise
Required Skills:

  • Minimum Bachelors degree qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Construction or relevant field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities 
  • Subject Matter expert in relevant field of expertise 
  • Strong leadership with strong conflict management 
  • Exceptional time management skills.
