About Potash

BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.


The Principal Project Information Management provides strategy, leadership, and direction to Potash on Information Management data.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Work with BHP’s Manager Digital Systems, implement and embed the Owner's Information Management Strategy to ensure that the right data is available and provided to the right people at the right time.
  • Provides advice, counsel or facilitating services for information management to the functions
  • Develop, implement, and assure the information management strategy to manage deliverables, and the respective data in accordance with functional requirements set by all BHP functions
  • Own information management policies and plans that facilitate efficient, legal, and secure management and access to electronic content consistent with the Jansen Digital Strategy and BHP requirements
  • Provide oversight, surveillance, and audit the engineering service providers, subcontractors, and suppliers against BHP’s information governance requirements
  • Champion the embedment information management best practices in all BHP functions through communication, training, and process optimization
  • Ensure Potash compliance with BHP global business level processes
  • Develop information repository optimization and transition plans

  • Collaborate with other functions to integrate project systems with business enterprise systems in Operations
  • Provide input to system plans, system architecture and handover plans established by BHP
  • Collaborate with BHP functions to establish the requirements and processes for handover of deliverables, data/models, and systems at project completion in accordance with strategy to maintain the digital asset in Operations
  • Embed practices that continuously improve user experience, training, and support
  • Assist with managing change and transformation, i.e., communication plans for new systems and processes to support the implementation of digital technologies
  • Conduct maturity assessment to benchmark BHP’s information management maturity, identifies the desired maturity level, identifies gaps then develops plans to close gaps
  • Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.  

About You


  • Degree or diploma in engineering, business or another relevant field
  • Good analytical skills as well as evaluative judgment based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situation.
  • Related experience in an information management role 
  • Excellent knowledge of information management principles, skills and tools including data management, document control and records management 
  • Ability to filter, prioritize, analyze, and validate potentially complex and dynamic material using multiple sources of information (internal and external)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong knowledge of Information Management standards and processes (i.e. ARMA, iGBOK, ISO 15489-1, ISO 9001, etc.)
  • Strong working knowledge of data-centric engineering design tools, materials management, project services (cost and schedule), construction and information management software
  • Experience with Hexagon SmartPlant tools
  • Specialized training and experience in business re-engineering, process improvement such as LEAN, Six Sigma would be an asset
