About the Role

Reporting to the Lead Studies Rail Decarbonisation within the Operational Decarbonisation group, this unique role will provide leadership to multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to the ultimate delivery of the Rail Decarbonisation Project.  

The role will support BHP in delivering on our commitments by:

 

  • Delivery of specific elements of the Minerals Australia Operational Decarbonisation portfolio including tracking, de-risking and optimisation/sequencing of the decarbonisation journey for the most economic outcome
  • Owning and project managing specific elements of the BHP Decarbonisation Roadmap to ensure that Australia’s operations meet their emission target reductions, including Power solutions and Diesel Displacement
  • Maintaining critical relationships to deliver BHP key requirements

 

This role will include:

 

  • Ongoing commitment to Safety Culture
  • Leading the engineering management strategy for Rail Decarbonisation study phases
  • Providing technical knowledge in the studies and development phase of the project
  • Identifying critical activities and setting the plan for implementation
  • Defining project and study objectives and translating into scopes of work for Engineering Service Providers (ESPs) and/or others
  • Leading all ESPs work (scopes, project and contract management)
  • Reviewing the quality of all engineering deliverables aligned to the Project / Study phase requirements
  • Monitor and manage project performance to deliver projects in line with safety standards, requirements, budget, schedule and scope
  • Manage contract execution and analysis to maximise operational and financial performance and mitigate exposure and risk
  • Managing interfaces between Rail Decarbonisation, Power West Decarbonisation and other workstreams
  • Identifying, engaging and managing stakeholders, driving User Requirements / design criteria,
  • Facilitating and participating in workshops
  • Collaborating with the Battery Locomotive Proof-of-Concept trial team and operational stakeholders to obtain information on trial performance  
  • Establishing insights from trial performance that are applicable to the study and help inform recommendations regarding WAIO’s future state rail network
  • Exploring and interrogating the best fit solutions, taking ownership of tracking project decisions and outcomes, and monitoring and managing impacts to value across the project lifecycle
  • Identifying and assessing risks, supporting risk informed decisions, utilising BHP's risk management framework and building a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following   :

  • Strong safety leadership skills and history of quality field leadership participation
  • Knowledge in lean management
  • Understanding of early phase project design development and investment processes
  • Degree qualifications in science, technology, engineering or an aligned discipline
  • Qualification and/or exposure to Electrical or renewables projects
  • Understanding of the Rail industry, locomotives and rail systems
  • Knowledge of project study requirements across all stages of the project lifecycle
  • Confidence influencing cross-functional, cross-geography collaborative teams not directly in reporting lines
  • Experience in delivery of complex solutions
  • Possesses a strong attention to detail
  • Risk and uncertainty management and analysis skills
  • Demonstrates a hands-on leadership style, balancing effective delegation with direct contribution to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and complete tasks personally, as required
  • Balances effective delegation with direct contribution where appropriate
  • Maintains accountability by personally executing critical work in addition to coordinating others
  • Demonstrated technical and commercial acumen, advanced problem solving and strategic resolution capabilities
