About the Role
Reporting to the Rail Manager the Rail Maintenance Principal role is a full time, permanent position on a 5/2 roster, responsible for the maintenance of the BMA Rail Rolling Stock fleet. You will safely and effectively manage our fleet in order to optimise equipment availability in accordance with our policies, objectives, regulation and the integration of the business strategy. BMA Rail is the leading Operator in Safe Operations within the Central Queensland Coal Network. Please note this is a residentially role located at our Hay Point Terminal, Mackay.
In this role you will:
- Strategic and tactical responsibility for implementing maintenance strategy with a strong focus on quality, cost and delivery, maximising efficiency, optimising and driving maintenance excellence
- Champions a safety culture which promotes, creates and maintains a Zero Harm approach in all aspects of the operation
- Manage the Rail Maintenance Contract
- Responsible for providing leadership, outstanding people skills and support to a small team
- Manage maintenance budget, resources, and on time delivery of maintenance activities
- Implement and manage continuous improvement principles
- Lead coach and coordinate the activities of the maintenance team to drive a preventive maintenance culture to provide increased Rolling Stock availability
- Support and collaborate with the Rail production team, Aurizon Contract team, and other internal and external stakeholders
- Investigate and analyse breakdowns and reliability issues
- Ensure on time execution of work management including internal and external Rolling Stock notifications
- Build positive workplace relationships with all stakeholders
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to research and understand legal and financial implications
About You
- Ability to promote safety and provide positive leadership to the team
- Trade qualification or Engineering degree required
- Prior experience in a people leadership role is essential along with the ability to encourage, lead, support and foster a positive and collaborative team culture across Maintenance and Operations
- Excellent trouble shooting experience with the ability to understand, assess and work through and resolve maintenance issues
- Require a strong understanding of contracts, contract governance, contract language and the contract lifecycle
- Proven experience in a Maintenance Leader role
- Strong communication, coaching, consultation and negotiations skills with an ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders
- Solid commercial acumen, able to understand and manage budgets
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence effectively
- Sound 1SAP knowledge
