About the Role
This Principal Reward Superannuation & Benefits will support the strategy and optimisation of BHP’s Australian superannuation and employee benefits, including insured and other employee benefit arrangements.
In addition, this role will be accountable for ensuring compliance with legislative, prudential and industrial requirements, while aligning superannuation and employee benefit outcomes with BHP’s remuneration philosophy, workforce strategy and financial risk appetite. This role will also provide technical leadership across Australian superannuation and insurance activities, and the management of trustee and vendor engagement and regulatory interaction.
Accountabilities will include:
- Lead the design, governance and optimisation of Australian superannuation and insured employee benefit arrangements, ensuring alignment with BHP’s remuneration philosophy, workforce and employee relations strategy.
- Provide technical and specialist advice to Reward and HR, as the principal authority, on Australian superannuation, and other retirement and insured employee benefit arrangements in Australia, including legacy and industrial arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with Australian superannuation, employment and industrial legislation.
- Maintain oversight of superannuation and employee insurance and other benefits-related risks, controls, audits and regulatory reviews, including vendor and insurer engagements, and policy committees / other local governance committees.
- Oversee insurance benefits design, renewal, claims governance and insurer performance across Australia to protect member outcomes and cost efficiency.
- Support enterprise changes including union enterprise agreements, restructures, acquisitions and divestments, ensuring superannuation and employee insured benefit outcomes align with agreed industrial or relevant M&A terms.
- Provide expert financial analysis, modelling and reporting support relating to Australian superannuation and employee benefits and workforce cost impacts.
- Build superannuation capability across Reward, HR and HR Operations through coaching, policy development and clear guidance.
- Monitor fiscal and legislative changes and market trends to super and employee benefits in Australia to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the review and maintenance of benefit-related policies to update for legal and regulatory changes, including socialisation of policy changes and policy implementation (e.g. technology and payroll considerations).
About You
- Deep technical expertise in Australian superannuation, insurances and benefit frameworks and management of arrangements.
- Experience with managing the delivery/execution of Australian superannuation and benefit initiatives in a complex, unionised environment.
- Proven capability engaging trustees, insurers, regulators, auditors and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to translate regulatory, industrial and technical requirements into practical, compliant and commercially sound outcomes.
- Strong influencing skills across all organisational levels.
- Strong knowledge of superannuation legislation, compliance and governance.
- Excellent analytical, financial modelling and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in industrial and regulatory context.
- Excellent communication skills, very high attention to detail.
- Must be able to work under pressure, have strong organizational skills and ability to handle numerous tasks simultaneously while prioritizing and meeting deadlines
- Strong project management skills, and experience in SAP required.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, in particular Microsoft Excel.
