About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.  BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles. 

 

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

Purpose

Reporting to the Manager Reward, the Principal Reward is responsible to manage the development and deployment of BHP global reward frameworks and tools in Canada and in our new Potash business, including technical subject matter expertise support and guidance with a holistic Total Reward overview. Role requires deep expertise in compensation, benefits, pensions, welfare and health; aiming to partner with local human resources team and advice the business according to their needs and requirements.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the deployment of a benefit project, properly manage the implementation, stabilization and embedment plan.
  • Support the standardization and alignment of local Canadian remuneration, pension and benefit programs and associated policies to BHP global reward philosophy, programs and policies.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical support to BHP in Canada on remuneration and benefit programs, both global and local.
  • Act as a strategic reward business partner to HR and leaders in Potash, and provide deep functional remuneration, benefits and pension expertise to add value to the business, including the governance and deployment of the global and local remuneration frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Proactively seek an understanding of, and provide insights to the business on, the relevant external salary market landscape, forecasts and movements and interpret the information for internal stakeholders.
  • Accountable for compliance with relevant Group Level Documents (GLDs), legislation, agreements and standards.
  • Provide technical and specialist reward advice on:
    • application of BHP remuneration philosophy and frameworks
    • understanding impacts of reward decisions (including legacy arrangements)
    • consistent application of flexible work arrangements and other I&D initiatives
    • strategic application of reward in consultation with other HR sub functions

About You

  • Degree or equivalent education or experience required.
  • Experience with managing the delivery/execution of global reward activities and initiatives.
  • Deep technical expertise in remuneration and benefit programs, including ability to think conceptually, analyze, problem solve and drive practical solutions.
  • Able to translate data analytics into commercial insights and strategic business priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail, and strong analytical skills.
  • Previous Reward Mining experience in Canada preferred.
