About the Role

It is important to mention that although the notice states that the job is in Farmington, the actual workplace is in Grants, which is about an hour away from the location. We want to make this clarification for all interested parties.
 

Support closure of New Mexico and Utah sites in accordance with corporate requirements and Legacy Assets closure strategy to mitigate risk to the company. Execute site care and maintenance as well as closure-related activities to support the site superintendent. 

  • Delivers the operational program of work described in the sites’ Operations, Maintenance, and Surveillance manuals, Closure Management Plans, and Life of Asset.
  • Track completeness of routine site activities and compliance initiatives, including radiation protection and environmental monitoring programs (storm water management, groundwater monitoring, radon monitoring, and other environmental programs as assigned).
  • Support site superintendent on cost control and forecasting and risk management for site closure activities.
  • Provides execution support for projects and studies.
  • Prepare and review regulatory and technical reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Understand and support compliance with all local legislation and regulations as well as local asset procedures including safety, health, environment and community and associated corporate reporting.
  • Risk assess work activities and ensure actions are taken to enable safe work execution and are documented according to BHP’s HSE framework requirements.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with local community, contractors, consultants and government/regulator stakeholders.
  • Support the identification and implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Reporting of events and hazards in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Knowledge of New Mexico, Utah, and US environmental regulations and best practices.

About You

A successful candidate will have the following characteristic and requirements

 

  • Experience working in an environmental or engineering role in a heavy industrial, mining or reclamation work setting.
  • Operating and site field experience including safety, health and environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
  • Physically fit and capable of work outdoors 
  • An ability to interact and communicate professionally with internal staff, site superintendent, and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Strong computer skills as required to provide technical analysis and designs, reporting detail and/or electronic communication as required. 
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite
