About the Role

 

Are you ready to shape the future of risk at a global scale?
We’re looking for a dynamic and strategic professional to join us as a Principal Risk Business Partner supporting Non Operated Joint Ventures (NOJVs). In this second-line advisory role, you’ll collaborate with senior leaders, functional teams and BHP Non-operated Joint Venture stakeholders to protect and create value through risk expertise, insight, oversight and challenge across BHP’s non-operated assets.
You’ll be an advisor, helping strengthen risk governance, improve risk visibility, support informed decision-making and protect value across a diverse portfolio of non-operated joint ventures in BHP. This role will require strong stakeholder influence, the ability to provide insight and oversight where BHP does not have direct operational control.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • For Non-Operated Joint Ventures, performs an objective process to assess alignment of individual NOJV’s risk processes against “ISO31000 Risk Management” best practice.
  • Advises BHP’s appointed representatives in NOJVs Board and Committees in the development of influencing plans to improve the Operators’ position on the risk management maturity curve.
  • Support the development of risk strategies and plans that strengthen BHP’s oversight, influence and value protection in joint venture arrangements.
  • Apply a deep understanding of the risk framework to strengthen consistent risk management across NOJVs, provide insight and oversight to risk and control owners, and enhance risk performance, governance effectiveness, capability and culture through fit-for-purpose guidance and coaching.
  • Support specific initiatives for NOJVs, such us deployment of risk identification from a shareholder perspective.
  • Work collaboratively with the RBP network and leverage Asset and Functional teams to share insights, expertise and opportunities to provide consistent advice on NOJV risks.
  • Prepare risk updates and insights as required for senior leaders, Directors and relevant NOJV governance forums.
  • Integrate risk into strategic decision-making across NOJV using storytelling and clear risk narratives to support senior leaders in understanding exposure, trade-offs and potential value impacts.
  • Use BHP Operating System (BOS) practices to support continuous improvement, strengthen problem-solving, and embed risk insights into the way work is planned, executed and improved across Non-Operated Joint Ventures.

 

 

About You

 

  • Extensive experience liaising with, and influencing, diverse stakeholder groups spanning operational and functional disciplines, diverse leadership teams from multiple geographies, commodities, jurisdictions, and senior executives.
  • 5+ years’ experience in risk management in an operational environment, with knowledge of professional standards (ISO31000, COSO, RIMS, or equivalent). Risk qualification would be advantageous.
  • 3+ Previous experience managing senior stakeholders’ relations.
  • Degree in a relevant field such as Mining, Engineering, Finance, Law, Business or Risk Management.
  • Full proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Desirable experience in Non-Operated Joint Ventures, Operations, Project, Governance, Mining, Processing, Engineering.
  • Analytical skills, strategic thinking skills and sound judgment in complex, ambiguous and influence-based environments where direct operational control may be limited.
  • Availability to work from the Santiago office under a hybrid work model.
