Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.

Come and be a part of this success.

About the Role

The Principal Risk Reporting role is a high-profile role within the Group Risk, Insurance and Audit (GRIA) function that provides strategic insights to senior stakeholders across BHP and externally, including the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), BHP’s Board of Directors and our shareholders. Reporting to the Manager GRIA Reporting and working closely with another Principal Risk Reporting, you will play a key role in the strategy to connect our organisation’s decision-makers with the key insights they require to support effective management of risk in line with BHP’s strategic objectives.

In this role, you will build an understanding of BHP’s Risk Framework and the universe of risks to which BHP is exposed through our diverse, global operations. You will draw upon this knowledge to look across internal and external risk data and other sources of intelligence, working with our Risk Business Partners and other stakeholders (including the Chief Risk & Audit Officer and GRIA Leadership Team) to identify strategic themes and insights that support the management of key emerging, current and strategic risks to BHP. You will translate these into cohesive and insightful narratives that are audience-appropriate, informing decision-making at the highest levels of our organisation. You will also challenge the status quo and listen to our customers to identify and deliver continuous improvement opportunities as we strive to get better at what we do every day.

As the Principal Risk Reporting, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing Board and executive papers on BHP’s risk management performance and the Risk Framework.
  • Preparing and reviewing Company-level risk information for external disclosures, such as the Annual Report, Sustainability website and Company prospectuses.
  • Collaborating with Internal Audit, Group Governance, Legal and other stakeholders to support the delivery of timely and relevant insights to senior decision-makers.
  • Analysing risk data to identify trends and inform the prioritisation of activities.
  • Conducting benchmarking of the internal and external environment to contribute to the identification of emerging, strategic and current risks.
  • Monitoring changes in the internal and external environment and regulations that may impact risk reporting.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of risk reporting and our Risk Framework more generally, and providing support and challenge to other teams where appropriate.

About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative and fast-paced team environment and is an excellent communicator, with an ability to identify and communicate key messages to a range of audiences.

Ideally, you will have the following experience:

  • Demonstrated experience preparing high-quality written papers for ELT and Boards, including by using storytelling techniques that create a strong and cohesive narrative, translating technical concepts into plain English and focusing on the ‘so what?’ for these senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including attention to detail, presentation, facilitation and storytelling techniques).
  • Strong ability to partner with senior stakeholders to build a culture of collaboration and achieve objectives through respectful challenge and influence.
  • Experience in reporting risk or business performance or in advisory/ legal roles that require data or information analysis.
  • Well-developed prioritisation and project management skills (e.g. oversight of a number of complex/ concurrent projects).
  • Experience in risk management and knowledge of professional standards (e.g. ISO 31000, COSO and RIMS) would be advantageous.

Location

We have flexibility for this role to be based at our BHP Australia corporate offices in Brisbane, Perth, or Adelaide. You will be working on Mon-Fri while flexible work is also offered.
